Obviously my interest in Club rugby in the Bay has waned at the moment! Still a major moral victory for the Texans in that it is not often the combined NOB-M lose the battle to see who gets the most points from penalties!

From the HBT's report of Saturday's club rugby:

          Jonah Lowe is back!

Maori All Black and Hurricanes rugby winger Jonah Lowe returned to play with his first outing of the season in Hawke's Bay's premier club competition on Saturday.

Lowe, 23, had been out of action for three months with a shoulder injury collected during a Hurricanes training session. While he hasn't played at Super level this season Lowe was outstanding for the Hurricanes development side earlier this year.

Tremains Andrew Clark Clive coach Vaine Maui gave Lowe 44 minutes off the subs bench at centre in his side's 26-14 Tui Maddison Trophy fifth round win against MAC at Farndon Park. Although Lowe, who has scored 77 points in 35 first class outings for the Magpies, didn't get a lot of attacking opportunities Maui said he proved he was ready fo the Hurricanes if required.

"We're rapt with his loyalty. Clive is his home club and he comes back as often as he can," Maui added.

Taking Lowe's limited rugby this winter into account Maui is likely to get more games out of him durng the coming weeks than the Hurricanes coaching staff will.

          .
Not Farrell again; I hope it's not too bad!

Former Napier Boys' High School prop Manaaki Aranui made his premier debut as a substitute after Magpie Tim Farrell was forced off with an injury.

          Cridge again/still playing for Central

With the likes of prop Joel Hintz, hooker Travis Taylor, locks Ben and Tom Parsons and loosie Geoff Cridge the visiting pack was hard to halt when these lads were making cohesive charges up field as a unit.

McClutchie: first five, fullback, and now halfback

Magpies first five-eighth Lincoln McClutchie scored a brilliant try and impressed with his chat in the halfback role.

Upset win to MAC by the look of things. Other results as predicted.

This week Sam McNicol is scheduled to make his long awaited return to playing by appearing for NOB Marist against Havelock North. Will be his first game since October 2017 (Magpies' v Manawatu).

It's NOB Marists' club day, so we look forward to your report @Stockcar86 !

                Taradale (2nd) beat Hastings RS (3rd) 56-31.

Taradale scored their 4th try for the bonus point after just 22 minutes and led 28-7.

Early in the second half it was 31-31, then Taradale 1st five Brad Truesdale kicked a penalty goal from halfway for a 34-31 lead.

Hastings RS lock got a yellow card for offside in his 22 after the referee had given Hastings RS a warning for conceding too many penalties under pressure, and while he was off Taradale kicked another penalty (for the lock's offside) and then scored two more tries with the player advantage to lead 49-31, game over.

For Hastings RS Mason Emerson (concussion) did not play, Danny Toala came on as sub for the whole second half and played at first five-eighth. Josiah Tavita-Metcalfe played the whole game at number eight.

Caleb Makene played fullback for Taradale, and their reserve halfback Humphrey Shield has got a damn good pass on him. Don't know why he didn't start.

Thanks for update. I have no news on NOBM club day as I didn't get to leave my office all day as I needed to work - didn't even get to see the Chiefs game 😞

Was good to finally get back in the mixer yesterday in the new colours! It’d been a long 20 months away from the game, with 14 months out due to concussion and another 6 with wrist surgery. Want to thank my mate and trainer @tobyjbanfield for keeping me motivated and pushing me everyday - what a top lad 🤟🏼 Cheers for the support team. ✅

Can anyone confirm whether the goss I have received earlier this afternoon that Brodie Rettllick will be turning out for Central HB RSC tomorrow has any foundation to it?

@Stargazer We will just have to wait and see then. I hope to be on the sidelines at Whitmore Park tomorrow (taking my boots just in case!!!!!). First time up home this season and would you know it there is a private function on in the Texans lounge starting at 6.00pm thus a shortened time for supporters to discuss the finer points of the game before being turfed out. Might have to take in a few tips on how the real old timers coped in the days of the six o'clock swill times!
