      Thanks for update. I have no news on NOBM club day as I didn't get to leave my office all day as I needed to work - didn't even get to see the Chiefs game 😞

      @Stockcar86 No sweat Stockcar.

      Both Stacy Ili and Sam McNicol played for NOB Marist - McNicol scored a try after a 60 metre run.

        @Number-10 Really good to read that both McNicol and Makene played their first game of club rugby (in the Bay) this weekend, and both scoring a try.

            Was good to finally get back in the mixer yesterday in the new colours! It’d been a long 20 months away from the game, with 14 months out due to concussion and another 6 with wrist surgery. Want to thank my mate and trainer @tobyjbanfield for keeping me motivated and pushing me everyday - what a top lad 🤟🏼 Cheers for the support team. ✅

                Can anyone confirm whether the goss I have received earlier this afternoon that Brodie Rettllick will be turning out for Central HB RSC tomorrow has any foundation to it?

                    @Stargazer We will just have to wait and see then. I hope to be on the sidelines at Whitmore Park tomorrow (taking my boots just in case!!!!!). First time up home this season and would you know it there is a private function on in the Texans lounge starting at 6.00pm thus a shortened time for supporters to discuss the finer points of the game before being turfed out. Might have to take in a few tips on how the real old timers coped in the days of the six o'clock swill times!

                          Went down to Waipukurau to watch the Central v Clive match.

                          Brodie Retallick played 51 minutes for Central, didn't get actively involved but made one charge which led to a try. His locking partner was Ben Parsons, no sign of elder brother Tom.

                          Unsurprisingly, Central had their biggest crowd of the year.

                          Josdh Kaifa played second five for Clive and replaced at halftime - don't know if it was injury or tactical. One who did stand out for Clive was flanker Liam Udy-Johns, his first year out of school (last year's Hastings BHS captain.

                            @Number-10 Kaifa in the backs??? I know he's been moving between 6 and 7, but this is something else!

                            Udy-Johns was outstanding for Hastings last year; good to hear he's playing well in club rugby, too. I'm not sure whether we will have a good U19 squad this year and whether we have good candidates for next year's NZU20s, but he should be one of them. That is, if there's a new coach, because with Philpott, I don't expect anything anymore.

                              Yeah, odd to see Kaifa in the backline. Apparently his 40 minutes stint was because he played all 80 minutes for the Magpies midweek v Manawatu, and there was nothing on the result for Clive - the semi-finalists had already been confirmed last week.

                              NOB Marist beat Tamatea 133-7, even with the game being called off seven minutes early.

                                Teddy is still pretty young (18?) but seems to have all the skills. Holds up his side of the scum well, seems to do his job as a lifter, and is very effective with his build with ball in hand, more like a hooker than a prop). If he keeps injury free and continues to learn his trade, could easily seem him in black and white in the next couple of years, then maybe a higher level after proving himself.

                                      @The-Observer swings and roundabouts.

                                      If you have a potential star player and they don't get a NPC contract, there is a chance they may move somewhere else that will offer them a contract.

                                      Also, I'd rather have an 18 year old apprenticing in a NPC side than that position taken by a 22-23 year old journeyman from another province who didn't secure a contract in their home province, just here to play NPC and not club rugby

                                        From my perspective I don’t think 18yr olds have enough club experience to play at NPC level ...constant injuries , mental health , entitlements ... let them evolve in their own time , thoughts ?

                                        @The-Observer fine line. Zac made the Magpies first year out and was one of the best in the NPC that year. Izzy played in 7th form which I think was just to stop cricket trying to sign him (obviously he was good). His D at school was never his strength and think the jump to NPC at that age wouldn't have helped. Think much of his d got hidden over his career being at fullback/wong for Crusaders and The All Blacks. He was never bad but never great. More than made up for it in other areas.

                                        I haven't seen too many young guns get promoted and look out of place eg the hastings boys over the last few years. Thinking back over the years to Hika, Alby, Glen Horton, Tamifuna (not sure when Bucky was first selected). Agree would much rather home grown youngin get selected than Marvin Karawana...

                                          Surely, a future Magpie?
