There was some great skills on display from both sides. As a team effort, the Chiefs were on fire.
Was good to see many of the big names performing - ALB, Sam Cane, Weber and Barrett were outstanding & Goodhue not far behind. Read was getting thru a ton of work and I thought Crotty played pretty well. Thought some of Havilli's defence was top-drawer. Mo'unga was pretty average.

Good win to the Chiefs. Losing to them is always pretty hard to stomach, well, since around 2012 anyway as they were dross until they forewent any resemblance to a regionally representative side.
ALB looked scary dangerous every time he touched the pill, and Cane was also on fire. Those two really carried them. Great step, pace and try from Alaimalo though to get them going; his best game of the season and the same goes for the hooker, Parete, both halfbacks, Debreczeni and Nankevill.
I thought those couple of missed conversions hurt us. 24-0 vs 20-0 makes a difference and so too does the extra four points when we edged further ahead again in the second half. One of those nights when a 70% kicker kicking at only 60% hurts you. And then also giving away possession three times at the line out when it was tight was also painful and cost us. So black marks for Richie and Funnell last night. Couple of ordinary kicks from Richie too. Not his finest work.
Barrett looked more mobile than I'd ever given him credit for too, and played well at 6 later so maybe that answers a question for the AB selectors.

Completely incorrect. The lack of Waikato, BOP and CM born and bred players in the Chiefs since 2012 has been staggering.
The Crusaders in 2019 include, off the top of my head (and i stand to be corrected should i have any of these wrong, or if i miss some) - Moody, Franks, Perry, Romano, Strange, Dunshea, Blackadder, Harmon, Todd, Drummond, Mo'unga, Hunt, Cameron, Crotty, Bateman, Havili'i, Jordan, Punivai and Leicester F - raised and schooled in the upper SI. That's at least half the squad.
How many players subject to the same conditions can the Chiefs claim?

@shark But here's the Chiefs squad that are from the area, included injury replacement players and if you don't wanna count them then be my guest. I also might be wrong with a few but here they are: Reuben O'Neill, Nathan Harris, Bradley Slater, Laghlan McWhannell, Daymon Leasuasu, Lachlan Boshier, Mitchell Brown, Sam Cane, Luke Jacobson, Mitch Jacobson, Jesse Parete, and Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi. Only a few less than the list you named.
Also I may be wrong with a few or missed a few so feel free to correct me.

@Yeetyaah Aidan Ross went to Tauranga Boys College. Kaleb Trask is also contracted for the next few years but out injured. Liam Polwart and Aaron Caroll have been in the injury replacement mix.
Don't get me started on who Mount Maunganui College All Black Scott Robertson is coaching

Can’t believe some of the criticism Kieran Read is copping in the social media network..
To me he is still the premier 8 in the country I decided to look back at last nights game this morning .
The first 20 minutes looked like a training a run and for most of that period the Chiefs were tackling shadows
ALB pretty much up summed the Chiefs efforts in first 20 minutesWhat changed in the game was, the chiefs after making so many handling errors started holding the ball but even more importantly negated much of the high box kicking that the Crusaders over did.
If the Saders had actually stuck to what they had been doing in the first 20 the chiefs may have leaked more points..
The other tempo shift from the Chiefs was using inside balls which exploited inside channels.
During this period Read was doing an incredible amount of work but the nature of some of the Chiefs long range tries which were quite incredible breaks up against the tightest of structured defences.
That was seen in the first 20 minutes when the chiefs tries to push the ball wide only to be shut down in the mid field.Now unstructured code is a different kettle of fish..Throw in 3 very poor lineout throws in a row from Funnell along with the negated high kicks ,that means you are without the ball for long periods.
But the beauty of what the chiefs did was finding some real variety in their attack ,unstructured and once they got in front, hunger and desire take over.Don’t care who you are but when can’t get a hold of the ball you are gonna struggle ,I must admit even with 10 minutes to go I thought the Saders would still pull this game out of the fire, they reverted to the meat and drink lineout drive and maul and try and pull a penalty
Problem for the Funnell he could not find his target..
One thing I will say about the Saders, they may have lost the battle ,but they will still win the war one suspects .On the chiefs,I absolutely marvel at their ticker ,given the injuries and unavailabilities they have , they pull themselves off the floor like a prize fighter and stay in the fight..
I wish the Blues had half the ticker these guys from down the road have..I heard the best definition of the Blues which I will share with you..
All the other franchises are like the students who arrive at class 5 minutes before class to prep for their day..
The Blues on the other hand are like a student who did not get enough sleep the night before and drags his feet to class 5 minutes late..
