Man City do as usual along with the Mickey Mousers but I was a little surprised at the Man U Chelsea result! 4-0 to Man U.

    Fat Frank won't be stoked!

We had a 0-1 win away at St James which makes me happy.

@Hooroo I only saw the United game from the moment the 3rd goal was rolling into the net. The commentators seemed to think that 4-0 was harsh on Chelsea after their 1st half performance but it is strange to see a usually pragmatic team has adopted Frank's free flowing style with young players on the pitch and being sliced open by rapid counter-attack. Pressure is on already for Lampard now - great start for Ole but we'll see how they go against a team that isn't so open.

Liverpool win 4-1 to make an early statement, so City go ahead and win 5-0 away to just show everyone who is boss

Not sure anyone saw the Man U v Chelsea score coming.

@mariner4life That was embarrassing for Arsenal - not so much for the scoreline but because it looked like Liverpool playing a team near the bottom, not a supposed top 4 contender. Liverpool didn't even play that well and still won easily. Classic David Luiz run in the wrong direction for the 3rd goal ....

@KiwiPie With the continuing problems at Bury and Bolton Wanderers is there any hope for a re-instatement back into the Football League of Notts County to take one of their places is they get booted out. Might bea big ask from 17th place in the Vanarama National League though.

I think it could have happened if one of them had been ditched before the end of last season - I think Bolton were quite close to being chucked out then but managed to survive.

And it looks like Bury are goneburger, kicked out of the EFL - Bolton with 14 days to save themselves.

Excuse my ignorance, but why did they get booted? was it a bankrupcy/money thing?

@canefan They are in administration. They got a stay of execution last week because they had a potential buyer but the sale fell through. Haven't been able to field a team and / or pay creditors.

Bolton Wanderers are in exactly the same boat. They were in Europa Cup 1/4's only just over a decade ago and are one of the founding clubs of the Football League. they have 14 days or they're gone too

That's a shame. I remember Bolton being in the 1st Div/ Prem. Why does Bury sound familiar? Were they the club that ManU were trying to buy? Or was it some ManU old boys?

@canefan Are you thinking of Salford (another Greater Manchester club like Bury and Bolton) that was bought by the "class of 92" (Giggs, the Neville brothers, Scholes and Nicky Butt)?

They're doing OK. Got promoted to League 2 this year.

@canefan You'll be thinking about the FA Cup final of 1903 I expect when they beat Derby 6-0 - the record win in the final until matched by City this year.
                            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1903_FA_Cup_Final

Amazing really that they won promotion last season while about to go under.

This season starts off exactly like last season

Liverpool 4 from 4, GD of +9. City 2 back thanks to a draw, but a GD of +11.

5 points off first already for Arsenal. 7 points off first already for Man U, Spurs and Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers has Leicester 3rd and unbeaten. Given the state of the other big clubs, they are a huge chance of a Champs League spot now that he has Vardy motivated again

And because we don't need another soccer thread

I watched this documentary on the Australia world cup qualifier from 2005. I'm not even Australian, and it amazes me how emotional that game still makes me. I think it's a lot to do with the commentary, especially from Craig Foster. He can't even speak, he's just yelling down the mic, years of hurt being let go in one moment.

It was an incredible occasion. Huge crowd, 1-0 home win and then penalties. Years and years of failure (32 i think since they had last played a world cup?) for a country that actually has a decent soccer culture wiped away with one goal, two incredible penalty saves, and John Aloisi.

I remember a couple of guys from here went to the NZ one where we finally made it, and they said it was one of the best crowds they had been part of?

It was an incredible occasion. Huge crowd, 1-0 home win and then penalties. Years and years of failure (32 i think since they had last played a world cup?) for a country that actually has a decent soccer culture wiped away with one goal, two incredible penalty saves, and John Aloisi.

I remember a couple of guys from here went to the NZ one where we finally made it, and they said it was one of the best crowds they had been part of?

@Kirwan and I went to that. It really was an amazing crowd. Very different to Rugby

Yeah that was a great day out. Amazing crowd.

I drove through the night for a golf tournament on the Sunday morning. Fair to say, I slept well Sunday night. Fist time I have driven to Wellington and back in the same day

I went to both NZ WC qualifiers. Let's just say the Bahrain game was more enjoyable than the Peru game.
