And because we don't need another soccer thread

I watched this documentary on the Australia world cup qualifier from 2005. I'm not even Australian, and it amazes me how emotional that game still makes me. I think it's a lot to do with the commentary, especially from Craig Foster. He can't even speak, he's just yelling down the mic, years of hurt being let go in one moment.

It was an incredible occasion. Huge crowd, 1-0 home win and then penalties. Years and years of failure (32 i think since they had last played a world cup?) for a country that actually has a decent soccer culture wiped away with one goal, two incredible penalty saves, and John Aloisi.

I remember a couple of guys from here went to the NZ one where we finally made it, and they said it was one of the best crowds they had been part of?

@Kirwan and I went to that. It really was an amazing crowd. Very different to Rugby

I drove through the night for a golf tournament on the Sunday morning. Fair to say, I slept well Sunday night. Fist time I have driven to Wellington and back in the same day

I went to both NZ WC qualifiers. Let's just say the Bahrain game was more enjoyable than the Peru game.

Watford, four games in to the season, are the first to pull the trigger on their coach. Ouch.

Spurs go 1 nil up and lose 2-7 at home.

              Ouch.

At least they are in the CL though, I suppose. Looks as though they will be in Europa after this pool stage.

@Hooroo The red half of North London will take some satisfaction that an ex-Gunner (Gnabry) scored 4 of them.

We have not played well for some time. Unsettled players who want away, some out of form and confidence, and an intense manager who appears to have lost the dressing room. Not a good mix

shit chages very quickly doesn't it? It's not very long ago that Spurs were the darlings, football done the right way, with a manager every one wanted. Now the media will do everything to get him sacked.

Spurs suffering from a lack of investment. Standing still is going backwards in the money arms race that is the top level of European soccer.

Still, Real Madrid were held at home by Brugge.

Our finals run last year was lucky, and papered over the fact we could barely win a game late last season. If Arsenal hadn't been poor too we would have missed out on UCL qualification this season. Still, after all of it, we are still in a race for the second spot with Olympiakos

Spurs have 23 points in the last 19 league games - so basically that is half a season of "close to the relegation zone" form. It is never good to concede 7 at home although they are still more than capable of qualifying if they can win their other 2 home games.

This is the result Spurs have needed to get a reality check.

My colleague is a season ticket holder - looking forward to today ...

Interesting game at Anfield - Liverpool into a quick 3-0 lead over Salzburg before being pegged back to 3-3 but going on to take it 4-3. Good away win to Chelsea 2-1 at Lille

Spurs were appalling in a 3-0 loss vs Brighton. We are looking like a relegation zone team sadly, the players look like they have given up on the manager. I'm not sure if Poch will survive this, if he stays they need to perform major surgery on the player roster to bring in fresh blood

Shock loss for City at home, Liverpool wayyyyyy out on their own now.

Big lead already for Liverpool and they seem to have mastered the art of winning ugly. Not all over yet and City are equipped to win 15 in a row .... but I'm calling it - Liverpool's title to lose!

Watched the 2nd half of Newcastle v Man U this morning and surely Ole hasn't got long to turn things around. 17 points from the last 17 league games is relegation form and they just look so slow and uninspired - they have no central striker (Rashford can't do the job) and the sale of Lukaku is looking bad with no replacement brought in.

you can see why Eriksen isn't a happy chap.

Liverpool had an 8 pt lead last year didn't they? 🙂
