Hurricanes 2020

@Machpants Not sure. Wellington hasn't won anything under him; they're not going great at the moment either. I'm also afraid it will increase the Wellington bias of the Hurricanes even more.
@Stargazer bias is a good point. But remember how previous welly coach went > then onto win SR for canes! NPC is such a lottery, players wise. It's very hard, over such a short period to make an impact. It's part time

I know nothing about the guy but he is going in as assistant, not head coach. I think bias these days is overblown. Plumtree has spent more time coaching in SA over the last 10 years than Wellington, and Gibbes is a traveller as well. He's coached and won with the Mooloos, they always have good packs, lets see how he goes. I am more concerned about us finding a decent option at 10

Chris Gibbes joins Hurricanes as assistant coach
Widely respected coach Chris Gibbes has joined the Hurricanes on a two-year deal as an assistant coach. Gibbes, 46, will leave his role as head coach of the Wellington Lions at the end of the Mitre 10 Cup season to join the Hurricanes coaching ranks where he will take over from the departed Richard Watt.A former Waikato head coach, who led the side to two ITM Cup finals, as well as Ranfurly Shield success, Gibbes has also had international roles with Japan and Georgia, New Zealand Under 20 while he was the forwards coach at Pro 14 side Ospreys for four years before he returned to take up the Wellington job in 2017.Hurricanes head coach John Plumtree believed Gibbes would excel in the role as forwards coach with a pack that was continually being strengthened.@Stargazer said in Hurricanes 2020:

I must have forgotten about the continually being strengthened bit as apart from Tyrel Lomax I can't remember any currently "continually being strengthened" evidence appearing in the press or this more informed website. I suppose the six foot eleven Safa lock yet again re-injuring and being replaced (temporarily?) by Kane Leaupepe count a bit.

It suggests in here that Walker-Leawere will be a Cane next year.
-
Daniel McHardy claimed that the Hurricanes were trying to sign Elton Jantjies, but he signed with South Africa again.
@Tim Desperate times call for desperate measures.
-
@Machpants certainly not.

Not that desperate
It might be if JGB is ever ranked No. 1 first five at the Hurricanes.
-
Given he was identified as a potential All Black First-Five yesterday, I wonder if we will see Jordie Barrett at 10 for the Canes next year.

If JGB is all we've got I'd give Jordie a couple of runs in 10 just to see what happens

@canefan Can't be any worse.

Yeah JGB was horrible last night. All over the place with his passing and kicking. Massive worry for the Canes.
I expect better from someone that has been in Super Rugby for three years now.

@Canes4life If Lima's club are keen to offload him because they think he is a bust then we should try to make that happen. Get him home, back on a kiwi diet and lots of hours on the stair master and our problems will be less

@canefan yeah a fit Lima is All Black quality, something JGB and F Smith are not.
