@Billy-Webb Being realistic they will be doing well to make it through to the tea interval.

    @Higgins
    You're probably right.
But this has been such an ebb-and-flow test, it would be a shame if Eng go out collapsing in a complete heap.

Glenn McGrath's solution to the run of bad umpiring decisions this test was novel - a return to home umpiring.

It would be the idea for an Aussie with a Boxing Day Test against NZ looming.

This really is fantastic. Great to see the Poms taken down a notch after arseing that CWC win.

Congrats to Aus, you won two days out of the five but you won those convincingly. Smith just incredible.

For England going forwards, Moeen gets the arse and I wonder if we will persist with both Butler and Bairstow? Archer in for Anderson. Not sure there's much else in the cupboard after that.

Great win for Australia. They will take a lot of confidence for the rest of the series from turning around a first innings deficit.

England look like they still have a long post-CWC hangover. They did to perform well at Lord's or they could be starring down the barrel of a home series Ashes whitewash.

The worry for England is how quickly they fell apart in the field in both innings - once a partnership built up, they seemed to become clueless and desperate very fast. When Head was dismissed yesterday, Australia's lead was only 100 but Denly was kept on to bowl full tosses to Wade.

I watched until 3 down last night and it was looking ominous. Even when surviving for a few overs, there were plenty of scares and both Cummins and Siddle were very good. Made Lyon's job much easier and he bowled them to the victory - it is his job to do it but it still had to be done.

From 112/8 to winning by 250 runs. Just an amazing fightback from Aus. Fair play to them, they are the All Blacks of Cricket - just never lie down

Just googled Joel Wilson - loads of results with "blind umpire" popped up...

McGrath might have a point. No home umpire would dare to be as bad as Wilson has been in this Test

Great win from Oz - Davey might have caught fire in the WC but the Ashes are all about Smith. Any bets on how many centuries he'll get this series!? Lots of areas for improvement for both teams but imo Oz have the clear headstart, especially thinking about the seamers they can rotate in.

Very keen to see if Archer will be right for the next test, and who is waiting in the wings in terms of English spin bowlers? Any young guns or even halfway useful guys they can bring in? Because current options are shithouse.

at least he's just rubbish, rather than biased. I do not want to go to home umpires again; it's not that they are biased, it's that people think they are biased.

@Paekakboyz Probably Leach for the spin bowling instead of Moeen. Orthodox slow left arm and a useful bat if the Ireland test is indicative.

Archer is a great talent but hasn't had to bowl 20 overs a day in test cricket yet - will be interesting to see how he goes. Australia look to have 5 pace bowlers who they can trust which is going be a great advantage for them.

Glenn McGrath's solution to the run of bad umpiring decisions this test was novel - a return to home umpiring.

Just googled Joel Wilson - loads of results with "blind umpire" popped up...

McGrath might have a point. No home umpire would dare to be as bad as Wilson has been in this Test

The umpires had a shocker, probably kept the match closer than it really was as Aus stuffed up their revues getting to 122/8.

But McGrath's solution is just plain stupid. The answer is for each side to have 2 reviews each, or unlimited revues if they dont waste them. As is the actual status quo.

The umpires mistakes only become costly after one of the teams has already made 2 mistakes .
