I thought I heard David Gower say the series was not good for openers, apart from Burns?

He was the only century maker I believe?

Only one opening partnership out of 10 made it to 50?

If the fella with the saffa/french surname had been batting in place of Khawaja it probably wouldn't have been close

Who cares about wickets lost? As a cricketing purist I'd like to see a breakdown of who hit the most boundaries.

Warner’s aggregate of 95 was the lowest for an opener that played all games in a 5 test series.

At one point he was copping some abuse from the crowd and he just shrugged his shoulders and showed them his empty pockets. Got some cheers for that

Broad seems to have single-handedly defused the supposed advantage that left handed opening batsmen have. Bowl around the wicket, hit that spot on a good length just outside off and move it both ways. The same thing that right-handed batsmen have to cope with against the new ball where you don't know what to play and what to leave.

Much easier said than done though and Broad's control has been excellent from around the wicket such that Warner has just been bamboozled (and so has Harris). With Lyon being somewhat nullified by the lack of left-handers to bowl to, maybe the left-hander will go back to being the exception rather than the rule in the top order.

@KiwiPie and the openers did nothing to address it. Bat on off stump. A metre outside your crease. SOMETHING.

Warner actually moved considerably across his stumps through the course of the series, Sky analysed it in a bit of depth.

                              Still didn't help him.

As a footnote to that series, I see that UK Sky has "retired" David Gower and Ian Botham from their commentary team.

On one hand it's disturbing to see these relics of my childhood being put out to pasture, but on the other neither were among my favourite commentators.

Neither of them did that much anyway. I remember David Gower during that WSC tri-series with Oz, NZ and England. He was majestic, almost superman-like. I seem to recall him racking up a lot of runs, including that legendary (at the time) game when they score a record score and we chased it down

@sparky Every word of Stokes is 100% on the nail. To revisit tragic events for all concerned that happened before Stokes was even born is just the type of gutter "journalism" the Sun specialises in unfortunately.
