The Carter Effect is also on Netflix. It's ok, but doesn't shape up well compared to the depth of the MJ series of course.

Am loving the Last Dance so far, even got the wife into it.

Jerry Krause gets a rough deal, he got treated like sh*t by the players and all he was trying to do was get the best players / maximum chance of winning by cutting deals, i.e. his exact job. Which he was excellent at. All the "lol ur really short and fat" nonsense, from MJ and others reflects badly on them IMO.

Pippen comes across as a knob given the crying over his contract as others have detailed above. And then not getting surgery on time so he could "enjoy the summer" is ridiculous. Hard to reconcile the fact he was so good, given he could be that unprofessional in other areas.

Controversial opinion time....I've always thought LeBron was the GOAT over MJ, and I actually think this more having watched the first two episodes.

Hear me out....the NBA wasn't as good in the 1990s. There were 7 new expansion teams The elite level (i.e. All Star) was comparable to today, but the overall standard in 2020 is way higher. Basketball is a proper international game now, and the money involved is so much higher, its hugely lifted the average talent level across the league. There are no "easy nights/opponents" like MJ had in the 1990s. People give modern stars sh*t over load management etc, but its a logical outcome of the much tougher grind during the regular season today. I also think the season length should be reduced for this reason, but that's for another thread...

LeBron is a much more rounded player, which appeals to me. He can really do it all in every position. Stat lines like MJ dropping 60 with 5 rebounds and 4 assists doesn't do it for me like a 35pt triple double from LeBron does, but that's a personal preference.

The other thing is longevity. LeBron made the first team All-NBA in his second year in the league, as a 20yr old, at a time when MJ was a college sophomore at North Carolina. LBJ took a terrible Cleveland team to the finals the next year, while MJ was still at college. Fast forward to the other end of his career, and LBJ is still one of the best players in the NBA at age 35. He'd have my vote for MVP this year over Giannis (narrowly), and without the virus suspension I think LA would've won the title. That's absurd after 17 seasons of excellence, and for me means his overall body of work is greater than MJ's.

MJ had a higher peak for sure, with 6 rings and never losing in Finals. But he also got knocked out of the playoffs a lot, especially in the 80s. LBJ went to 8 straight finals, and 9 in total. Winning rings with outstanding teams like the 90s Bulls is less impressive (to me) than dragging fairly poor teams to the finals year after year. Although the Miami teams LBJ won with were great. If LBJ wins a 4th title with LA, and 3 different teams overall, then it seals it I reckon.

      1. Greek freak has improved on his stats since last year when he got MVP. No way LBJ would be winning. He is second with clear daylight to anyone else.

      2. The mj going to college and LBJ being all nba was just 2 different paths. End of the day 6/6 is what people will look at. Also winning with 3 different teams is great but winning 6 with one team I think is better. Thats splitting hairs though.

      3. Watched this yesterday..... GOAT.....

Loving the last dance so far I think mainly because I usually play ball 2-3 times a week and that's not happening right now so its a bit of a fix.

I finished reading Tim Grovers book earlier this year he was Kobe/MJ's/Dwades and a few others trainer. Awesome insight into their mindsets.

I tend to like a ESPN 30 for 30 doco as they are often stuff I don't know lots about. The Rodman one is a bigger insight into him than in the last dance, fab five, bad boys, dream team etc. Some of these episodes I feel like I have already seen but still enjoy. The doco's particualrly all the college stuff which for the majority of us we didn't get to follow growing up.

I watched this the other day. Not great storytelling from the director and he flat out embarrasses his subject by intermittently playing drunken and desperate phone messages. I'll spoil it a little by saying that you are left without a clear picture of where things are or what the future holds. That said, Lloyd Swee'Pea Daniels is what you get when you have all the talent in the world but no common sense or family support system. Interesting watch if a little poorly directed.

I've never really followed the NBA closely but always heard rumours about Jordan being a complete arsehole. So far in The Last Dance I don't think he's come across too bad at all.

Any of you fullas that follow closely have an opinion on what The Last Dance is showing and if it's a true reflection of Jordan?

Also, was Pippen really considered the number 2 player in the NBA?

He held a final veto right on the content, along with the Bulls organisation. So it's coloured by that. He was a prick I reckon, but he was honest, and a prick for the right reasons. Lots of players probably couldn't have handled playing with him.

Pippen was awesome, but never the #2 guy in the NBA IMO. Awesome defensive player, and an unrivalled ability to finish with both hands at the rim. But not a creator and an average shooter (career 47/32/70 which is average given number of dunks he got).

It’s that combination of obsession to win / perfection / narcissism / impatience that made him difficult and even hated.

I think there’s a greater level of candidness in the MJ of today being reflective, but it’s still pretty sanitised.

In saying that I’ve really enjoyed it.

On Pip, never no. 2 in the league. Was in the top 10 and may have got a foot in the door for the top 5 when at his peak. There were a lot of great players around that time.

Yeah best two so far I felt. Funny such similar things with mj and Kobe regarding mindset and bullying of teammates to attempt to get the best out of them. Bj how good with that shot would have felt awesome.

                                          The episodes just fly by.

Amazing that 10 years after coaching Michael Jordan for the minor league Birmingham Barons - Terry Francona would coach the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series title since 1918!
