@mariner4life Yeah - it's not so surprising to see Kamna get buried at the end by guys who've been in an armchair. Devastating though! (Cycling is a a sh*t of a sport in the way it promotes these injustices
).Reminded me of a stage in last year's Giro, when George had been in a breakaway - ended on the gravel and not a particularly steep bit of uphill. I'm pretty sure it was Koen Bouwman who looked like he had it won from the breakway, and suddenly Bernal just blasted past him like it was me riding Bouwman's bike.

Anyway, further down the hill George put in a very good ride as Pog's second-to-last man. I think he must have done something 3kms on the front from about 5.5kms from the finish, with enough tempo to send the likes of Vlasov and Pinot out the back. Majka took over and did a bit more shredding and then the big boys went to it.
I thought poor old Kamna from the breakaway was going to grab the stage win, but in the end the ramp and the gravel at the finish were too much and Vingegaard and Pog sprinted past him and buried him.
Looked like Jonas had it in the bag, but Pog did his rock-star bit and came again.
Vingegaard came to a grinding halt and nearly fell over on the line as he finished and Pog looked like he could go another round if he had to.

Watch again. Pogucar nearly vomited straight afterwards. He was utterly spent.
What sets him apart is not that he is miles faster than everyone else. He's barely made time on Vingegaard, after all. It's that unusually for a climber he has a decent sprint. So he keeps winning stages that usually the GC winner would come second or third in.
Meanwhile Wout van Aert is just as dominant in Green, because he's a sprinter who can climb well.

I expect he has a big job to do in stages 11 and 12 so will welcome the rest day tonight and the 'hilly' stage 10.
The route goes up the Col du Galibier twice (equivalent of riding up to crater lake of Mt Ruapehu) so if you didn't like it first time you'll hate it coming back in the opposite direction the next day. -

won't by any chance of riding for himself when you've got Pog as your leader! I had to laugh pre-tour when GB said he was looking forward to the tour cause it was going to be easier than training camps with Pog. Him and WVA are just freaks.
Best bit about this tour so far is seeing that MVP is human! -

George out with Covid today. Maika also positive but low viral load so is allowed to stay in the race. I guess UAE just trying to keep the race a bit interesting huh?

How much did Pog miss George last night? Haven't seen it but reports were that he was battling individually.@Crucial I've only watched the video on the Tour website (they're not bad summary videos, though leaning toward the arthouse).
Looks like Roglic and Vingegaard double-teamed Pog, a bit. Multiple attacks - but, he also tried at least one of his own.
When Vingegaard was eventually successful, Pog still had Majka with him - and able to respond, but Pog didn't have the legs and eventually a real crack where others caught and passed him.
Wonder whether he's going to wake up with a sore throat, though.

Haven't seen all that happened on the Galibier, but TJV look (and sound) like they played the stage very well.
Van Aert had a massive ride - at the start, bringing Roglic back into play, and pacing the lower slopes of the final climb. They ended up with five guys at the foot of the climb -even though several had not much left to give.
Sounds like Roglic played Pog on the Galibier and Vingegaard provided the coup de grace.
Tonight will be fascinating to see who can or can't back up.
One thing in Pog's favour is that he really only has one TJV rider to cover now - though Ineos still has Thomas and Yates in play.

I'm clearly not a real cycling fan (as was pointed out above), but this was the sort of day I was looking for to give this race some juice. What a fucking cracker of a team attack, and your boy Vingegaard does appear to have some legs.
I quite enjoy the lantern rouge breakdowns (despite this title, which is true but a bit too interwebby for me):
