George picked up 21 places in the GC last night as we start to get into the mountains. Did nothing much but the pack is starting to sort itself out now.
I expect he has a big job to do in stages 11 and 12 so will welcome the rest day tonight and the 'hilly' stage 10.
The route goes up the Col du Galibier twice (equivalent of riding up to crater lake of Mt Ruapehu) so if you didn't like it first time you'll hate it coming back in the opposite direction the next day.did nothing much?? he set the pace for the entire 14km of the penultimate climb and shelled out a shit load of riders including Martinez one of the co-leaders for Ineos who ended up losing 12 mins so means one of Ineos attacking threats is no more and one less rider for UAE to worry about. Great days work he's looking pretty good.
He won't go high in the GC cause as soon as his work is done on the climbs he'll be chucking it straight into reverse and taking it very easy for the rest of the climb so will lose plenty of time

won't by any chance of riding for himself when you've got Pog as your leader! I had to laugh pre-tour when GB said he was looking forward to the tour cause it was going to be easier than training camps with Pog. Him and WVA are just freaks.
Best bit about this tour so far is seeing that MVP is human! -

If so, infecting George is a major fail with me!!!
He's had no luck with disease this year - missed a big chunk of the lowland races earlier.

Not likely. George and team were posting photos together on rest day.
How much did Pog miss George last night? Haven't seen it but reports were that he was battling individually. -

How much did Pog miss George last night? Haven't seen it but reports were that he was battling individually.@Crucial I've only watched the video on the Tour website (they're not bad summary videos, though leaning toward the arthouse).
Looks like Roglic and Vingegaard double-teamed Pog, a bit. Multiple attacks - but, he also tried at least one of his own.
When Vingegaard was eventually successful, Pog still had Majka with him - and able to respond, but Pog didn't have the legs and eventually a real crack where others caught and passed him.
Wonder whether he's going to wake up with a sore throat, though.

Haven't seen all that happened on the Galibier, but TJV look (and sound) like they played the stage very well.
Van Aert had a massive ride - at the start, bringing Roglic back into play, and pacing the lower slopes of the final climb. They ended up with five guys at the foot of the climb -even though several had not much left to give.
Sounds like Roglic played Pog on the Galibier and Vingegaard provided the coup de grace.
Tonight will be fascinating to see who can or can't back up.
One thing in Pog's favour is that he really only has one TJV rider to cover now - though Ineos still has Thomas and Yates in play.

I'm clearly not a real cycling fan (as was pointed out above), but this was the sort of day I was looking for to give this race some juice. What a fucking cracker of a team attack, and your boy Vingegaard does appear to have some legs.
I quite enjoy the lantern rouge breakdowns (despite this title, which is true but a bit too interwebby for me):

What a legend Morkov is. Rode the whole 200+ km stage yesterday on his own, knowing that he’d finish outside the time limit. He finished over an hr down and 12 min outside of the limit.
Evidently he was met personally by the race director when he crossed the line. Everyone else bar the Quickstep support team had buggered off.

Vingegaard has lost Roglic and Kruiswijk due to injury and Jonas himself had a crash - suffering only a bit of road rash apparently.
But, that changes the balance going into the Pyrenees - a bit more of a one-on-one dogfight.
I wonder how much time Pog thinks he can make up in the final time trial.

Just had a look and it is scheduled at about 59 minutes over approx 40km. (so 60kph).
By my maths he would need to average 1.4kph faster to make up 2 minutes on the scheduled time. That doesn't account for Vings speed.
Stage 18 looks the best chance. Maybe try and tire him a bit the day before then crack him on the three climbs (2 HCs and a Cat1)

Pog lost Marc Soler last night - he was throwing up and didn't make the cut off time.
And today, he's lost Rafael Majka - who has a torn thigh muscle and can't start.
So he's down to three support riders - McNulty, Hirschi (who's been struggling all tour) and Bjerg.
He's going to have to do it himself.
Vingegaard still has five team mates - including Van Aert, Benoot and Kuss.

And today, he's lost Rafael Majka - who has a torn thigh muscle and can't start.

Ha ha, how far away was that call? Maybe tomorrow as McNulty is absolutely ruining himself in service of the Pog today.
