Magic few days in Cahors and Couzou watching stages 19 and 20. The time trial went right past our front door (in the photo of Geraint Thomas). Solid 15 hour session with the locals on the Belgian beers and rosè.

      That's fucking awesome. Sooooooo jealous.

Cahors might be my favourite place in France, consistently the best food I've ever had.

Agreed. Lunch before stage 19 at a little cafe near the cathedral, was simply stunning.

Lucky B'tard! Haven't been there since backpacking days late 80s. Did an overnighter out to St Cirq la Popie but ended up pitching the tent beside a forest listening to wolves all night.
Got a lift from a dutch guy the next morning who dropped us in Cahors for the day while he did some work then picked us up again late afternoon and drove us all the way to his girlfriend's farm out of Condom. Spent an awesome few days being taken to local Armagnac distilleries and eating home confit.
I do remember a long lunch in a proper local cafe at Cahors. Steak Frites and a few carafes. Not sure where it was in relation to the cathedral but it was the type of place that's probably still there.

Tobias Foss surprisingly won the World ITT. Ganna quite a way off the mark.

Remco won the Vuelta. I was only keeping a loose eye on things. He'd built a bit of a buffer in the GC, but Roglic was starting to claw things back going into the final week and was looking like being an exciting show-down. But, Roglic crashed in the sprint finish on Stage 16 and couldn't continue. So the pressure came off and Remco did it comfortably.

George is spending his off-season in NZ.

I saw him biking over the Aniseed Valley hill just before Xmas and carefully drove around him before waving vigorously behind and getting a wave in response.

                  Fuck, I'm a legend. πŸ™‚

Saw him again today - unless someone else is out biking in UAE gear.

He's biking and not playing golf in his livery, so hopefully Hooroo isn't going to flame him for it! πŸ™‚

I think they are expected to train in team gear as part of their contracts.

Tour Down Under on at present.

I think there's 12 New Zealanders riding in it, which is surely a record for a World Tour race - at least, I can't remember a number like that.

@Crucial Gaze did a really good time trial in the prologue (5th).

Corbin Strong, Michael Vink and Paddy Bevin were all in the top 20.

Strong has gone on with it and currently 5th in the GC - just 14 seconds behind Rohan Dennis. George next best at 38th (39 seconds down) - the others all have lost more than 2 minutes.

Fuck it - Corbin Strong in a crash with 20kms to go and the pace full on.

He has Chris Froome trying to pace him back, but no chance, I think.

Hirschi and then George did a bit of pacing on the lower half of the corkscrew to launch Jay Vine, who takes the yellow (well, ochre) jersey.

Bilbao wins the stage from Yates, with Vine third - comfortably ahead of a chasing group.

Didn't watch today's stage, but Jay Vine wins the GC and is second behind Simon Yates on the stage.

Yesterday, a Frenchman called Bryan Coquard won the sprint (and did it well). His first ever win on the World Tour in 10 years of trying and couldn't have looked more thrilled.

George ends up 15th on the GC and would be quietly chuffed with that, I think. 7 seconds off 9th place and finished in the first pack on every stage (as well as shepherding Vine to the win). Not a race he would have peaked for and with a better prologue time trial could have been well inside the top 10.

Corbin Strong came 5th in yesterday's sprint - never close to heading Coquard, but showing a bit of promise to win stages sometime, somewhere.

Jeepers. I would never have guessed he hadn't got a World Tour win, having seen him win quite a few times. Turns out that they were all Div 2 races.

NZ riders did alright in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race.

                                      1. Corbin Strong; 7. Dion Smith; 9. George Bennett; 12. Aaron Gate.

A novel experience for George to be contesting the sprint!!

                                      Here's the last 3km....
