RWC: Japan v Ireland (Pool A)

The big game is Japan vs Scotland IMO. A lot of possible permutations from today's result, with Ireland, Scotland and Japan all potentially being 1st, 2nd, or being knocked out. Samoa too, though I can't see them toppling 2 of Japan, Ireland and Scotland. -

@PecoTrain Hadn't heard any speculation about his health before today.
I suspect he will become a media pundit, mostly based in NZ. Decent money, less stress and all-consuming than coaching.

For all those concerned about Ireland in the QF, I'm moderately relaxed. We just have to score points - last time we only got 9 against them. If we get 9 points, we lose, and well played Ireland.
This time, I think the conditions will suti us better (hotter), our prep is better, and mentally we shold be right up for it. Good luck Ireland, they'll have a big game in them, but it's going to be tough for them to exit the pool fresh and determined after Samoa and Scotland to play yet.
Our attack looks transformed from last year. We have unlocked the rush against SA, and I beleive we'll do it again soon.
What a tournament!

How many of the team that just lost to Japan were their best team or was it all second stringers? Just wondering if total lack of depth partially explains the loss.

Schmidt has said he wishes to spend more time with his family and their parents given the time away from NZ - this probably gives the best explanation.
His Mum died around end of July.

I don’t remember bok fans being this graceless at all and their team came back and gave ours a hell of a game in the semis.
I hope Heneke Meyer had a smile on his face last night .
The only downside for Japan is no one in their pool is going to take them lightly so they’ll be playing their top side if possible. -

As we know France are the great enigma when it comes to world cups.
Ireland’s 4th loss this year and their work at the ruck has been exposed (again).
That's all true, but I think they'll have nothing to lose against us, will know that their game plan works against us and, therefore, be 1000 time more committed and tenacious than they were today. On top of that, we'll need to just as - if not more - disciplined than the excellent japanese were. We'll need to be great at the set pieces and under the high ball. Also, unlike Japan, we will not have all of world rugby behind us and what 50/50 refereeing calls are made are, therefore, less likely to be made in our favour.
In short, it's gonna a hell of a tough test match for us

I honestly think that NH teams underestimate the mental strain of being number 1 and the expectations that come with it. You get the sense that ABs players and management are in the best mental space right now because they have dealt with it for years in and out of the World Cup. The weight of expectation was just to much for Ireland.
@DMX that will be a factor, NH media gave been blowing smoke up Ireland's arse since they beat us last year, yet they have had the wobbles since then losing to England twice, Wales and now Japan.
Hansen even mentioned the weight of expectation on the day he named the ABs and said it will be interesting to see how others dealt with it given they live with it all the time.
