@Machpants said in Planes: Yeah it was road side IEDs, but drone attacks, which can be based on AI and mass, are a real future/current async warfare threat. SO cheap, launch a few hundred/thousand and enough will get through to cause damage They could probably have a really simple cheap explosive too. Something like the yanks rigged up to drop from helicopters in Vietnam, a grenade in a mason jar. As soon as the jar hits the ground the jar breaks and the pin is pulled .
Ai guided anti drone drones are probably next , hopefully they have cameras so their dogfights can be uploaded to YouTube

@antipodean said in Planes: That's low level success rate. But drones firing shaped charges would be a nightmare. Cheap, almost undetectable. Psychological effect would be huge though

learnt a new plane related word today: Snarge The residue smeared on an airplane after a bird/plane collision.
 Additional Information
The DNA test on the snarge showed it was a pigeon.Apparently is military slang and not an official word

@Machpants possibly, google tells me it was submitted to become an official word in 2012... is used here too, and references the bird strike

Did anyone here ever actually see this? @Hooroo ? Yeah man. They used to do them at most Air Shows/Open days. I believe we were the first to do the Plugged Barrell roll (But I may be incorrect) Unfortunately we lost a really good pilot and good guy too in a practise session. Name escapes me right now
