Oh no, why are we bringing this game up?
Can't we just pretend this never happened?

They spent the week working hard on their game; analysing their opponent; and not taking anything for granted based on results up to that point.

The exact opposite of Japan 07

Also, it's facile to claim the English or NZ didn't either. They do - but it's human nature to relax a bit after a big effort; climbing the mountain again so soon is damn hard. It's not one performance that defines you, it's week in, week out effort. McCaw seemed to be the master at this from the outside, just never let down his standards.

Also, the NZ Eng game - we got thrashed by 7 points. Just didn't ever grab our half chances at any stage, and were behind physically. If you do that, you're scuppered

I'm the biggest fanboi for NZ ever. But by crikey 7 points was flattering. 20 points would have been a more accurate (but probably still flattering ) reflection.

When did you last rewatch it? It's been ages for me, so from memory we were pants executing, but England struggled to break us down, and our defence kept us in the game. Despite playing poorly, we were in it with 20 or so to, and could easily have burgled it. Sam Whitelock's shove on the eminently shovable Farrell was a key point; turned an offensive penalty and the chance to go deep into another defensive shift.

@Darren maybe put this thread on 'ignore'... people discussing a rugby match on a rugby forum; whatever next.

edit: sounded a bit harsh, not intdned as a 'slapdown', but do think about putting this on ignore if it's triggering

Eddie's most cunning tactic was Farrell's face.

Watching it once was more than enough. Not putting myself through that again...

I didn't even bother with Spark Sports free offer to watch the RWC games again last month.
