Oh remember how we laughed about Boult et al being rested/recuperating for the last test as the coach mentioned that "we had bigger fish to fry"

I thought the key to that was to remain out of the pan

I'm really looking forward to the ODI's on March. Good opportunity to set things right.

We are ranked no. 3 in the ODI rankings (v Aussie at 4) and NZ is the current holders of the Chappell Hadlee Trophy. We'll go in as slight favourites.

I expect us to bounce back well.

Remaining in the pan would have been preferable to the fire, but it was hellishly hot either way.

Watching live - and from the top tier of the Brewongle stand (cow corner to a leftie batting at the Randwick end) - it was interesting you note that I could pick up the ball from the spinners and just from CdG and Wagner.

The other bowlers? No fucking chance. Cummins and Starc you could not see until they came off the bat.

I remember being side on at the CWC15 final. Same thing, couldn't see the ball when the aussie quicks bowled

The biggest disappointment, well apart from choosing to fucking bowl first in the 2nd test, is the stark difference in attitude of our batsmen compared to theirs.

Their natural stroke makers reigned themselves right the fuck in. They batted uncharacteristically slow by Australian standards, absolutely making sure they got themselves past 350 so they had runs on the board to allow their bowlers to attack.

By contrast our blokes regularly threw their wickets away - Kane going for that insane pull shot when he needed to dig in is a great representation of that.

That's not a talent thing, that's attitude, discipline, application - all things we really have to lay at the feet of Stead whose job it is to instill that.

You can see the influence Langer is having on their top order now. Make sure you get a fucking score on the board or you're fucked - nothing flashy - just give your bowlers something to bowl at.

@No-Quarter particularly annoying is that we did the same to the English as the Aussies did to us. Batted slow and long, got big scores, then England got themselves out with poor shot selection.

Judging by the past I will be in my eighties.

What Ponting says is valid but crowd numbers may count too.

Presumably Australia are snubbed by Pakistan and Sri Lanka if 3 nil series whitewashes are the benchmark.

Lucky they only drew 1 all with Bangladesh or they'd be running out of tours.

It's odd to think that CA would punt the Black Caps from future summers. Sure they performed abysmally, but I'd much rather see them than the equally shithouse Pakistanis, Sri Lankans or West Indians. And judging by crowd figures I'm far from alone.

What's more, I enjoy a one-sided Kiwi flogging more than just about anything. Watching us roll the Pakistanis barely elicited a smile, but I was grinning from ear to fucking ear for all 12 days of this series. It's just something that brightened my dark, Bledisloe-less world.

So outside of India and England, I'd have the Black Caps a solid third on the list for future Boxing Days. If the Saffas decide they want to come then they can have that spot, but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

I assume part of the delay has been NZC wanting to have home summer games too. Do we get anything financially from the tour?

That's about where we should be, but we seriously need to do some work on our play in Aus conditions. Hard to do when we don't get to play there I guess.

Have to also get the crowds, but it will get boring just playing the same teams. 32 years was really too long and a shame to all concerned even though the end result was a damp squib due to our players not fronting up.

Not a great look for the test cricket format either.

One sided blowouts where the chance of one team winning becomes effectively nil by the end of the first day is not a great look.

I recall similar comments referring to one sided rugby matches involving a team wearing black jerseys....

                                      Swings and roundabouts.

I’m not that upset, disappointed yes, but I didn’t have high expectations to start with based on a few factors.

But the big take away for me is that we did see a more mature Aussie side. I think we bowled pretty well but the discipline of the OZ top order was excellent to the point that surprised many Aussie fans I spoke with.

Their bowling was always going to trouble ours in these conditions and the sort of wickets that would be prepped. But we lacked patience and application and unfortunately our second inning bowling efforts was whittled down to nothing more than time wasting

So outside of India and England, I'd have the Black Caps a solid third on the list for future Boxing Days.

I reckon every 4 to 6 years would give us enough time to allow the scars of the previous tour to heal

Does Aus smashing India put our losses a little more into context? I thin Aus are just on a high and impossible to beat at home right now.
