    Surprisaed one of you golf tragics hasn't already posted.

    Peter Alliss the BBC's long time "voice of golf" has signed off his card

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/golf/55175514

    Not everyones cup of tea, but living in London through the 80's he really did bring the game alive

    @canefan Buggar. Just buggar.

    A hero of mine. Might not have been the easiest of guys to get along with, and was quite outspoken, but shit did he do some amazing stuff. Buggar. RIP Chuck.

    I've probably embellished this story in my head, but didn't he work out and prove by trying that at a certain speed over water (like just above the water) it wasn't possible to ditch your aircraft at that speed?

    And he tried to do it (which would have killed him instantly if he was wrong)

    Have you heard that?

    Heard so stories of when he was in the war and over-ruled a wing commander (as a much lower ranked pilot) too I think (But I may be getting my folk heroes mixed up)

    @Hooroo Sounds vaguely familiar (both of them) - a long time since I read "The right stuff" or watched the movie though. They do sound like things that he would do.

    A few Yeager quotes:

    "The first time I ever saw a jet, I shot it down."

    "If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing."

    "The best pilots fly more than the others; that's why they're the best."

    Incredible that he broke the sound barrier in 1947.

    Yeah, I kinda implied the arsehole bit earlier.

    I know about broken ribs, right now. Didn't he hide it so that he could do the flight and had some device in the X1 to close the canopy as he couldn't raise his arm above his head?

    Stretching my memory with a lot of this now.

    1982 was the first time I watched a football World Cup on TV. Rossi came from nowhere to win the golden boot and help propel Italy to win the Cup, what a golden run

    Left field for The Fern I guess, but Barbara Windsor has died of Alzheimer’s at 83. For those of us of a certain age our Dads’ interest in the comedy stylings of Sid James and co in the Carry On films was suspiciously weighted to the ones Babs was in. RIP.

    @mariner4life @MN5

    He was always Zeus first and Deebo second to me. But better as the latter. "That's my bike punk!". Honourable mention as President Lindberg.

    But Friday will always, always hold a special place in my heart.
