@Snowy I can't really tell the difference between my kids iPad and their tablets, seems pretty same same to me. And I understand why people like an iphone, but I'm a full Samsung/Google convert these days

Might give it a try next time.

Apple did piss me off with a recent update to iPad. Was trying to airplay something which used to be a swipe up to get the menu thing, they moved it and I had to google to find that it is now top right corner. Yes, I could have read the update instructions but I am a Kiwi bloke. We don't do that.

In all honestly, if you aren’t a tech head or running some serious shit on Excel, you should be on Apple.

@canefan yeah same. That was a genuine question. I had a mac and an iphone about a decade ago, but swore off apple forever when I spent weeks trying to move photos onto an external hard drive unsuccessfully, then both machines karked it (is that how you spell that???) within a day of each other.

I never got the operating system of the mac, but to be fair never really persevered with it either.

Genuinely interested to understand why people prefer them these days.

I've owned Macs for over 10 years now and throughout much of that time I've been using PC's at work so I'm familiar with both.

I have an 11 year white Macbook that I still use for certain games, a 5 year old Macbook Pro that has no issues whatsoever (which I was going to give to my Mum when I bought my new one, but she went and bought a PC laptop without telling me) and a new Macbook Pro from last year. I've never had issues with them and there is no noticeable drop in speed on the 5 year old Pro.

Every PC I've had at work has had issues during the time I've been using them, and that's without getting into the frequency/timing of updates. Every single one has become more and more sluggish after each update. Conversely with most, but not all, Mac operating system updates usually improve performance and fee up hard drive space.

The most annoying thing about Mac is the need to buy a hub to use anything on it because they only have USB-C ports. There are other small annoyances with them that I can't think of, off the top of my head, but nothing major.

I find the iPad more annoying than Macs, I don't know why they can't just have a normal file system and it does stupid things sometimes when it wont allow you to move a downloaded book to Books or Kindle so I've got to download it on my Mac and airdrop it to my iPad. Also, file apps downloaded from the app store work way better than there stupid half pie Files app.

Also, just let me watch a fucking video in the browser without opening the Youtube app.

How do we define serious shit on Excel? I use it constantly in a Mac without issue whereas up until a few years ago I had to use a workaround on a PC to have two spreadsheets open side by side on my monitors, that always baffled the shit out of me ... but at least they fixed that.

Excel for Mac has limitations and differences in VBA abilities and Pivot Tables (at least it used to). Main issue is that if the workplace uses MS then you can avoid any potential conversion or compatibility problems. If you are only using Excel for your own purposes and not having to share then it is generally OK.

I, too am a dual system user. Mac for personal stuff as it is way easier to maintain (it just does what it does) and devices all talk to each other easily.
Windows for work related stuff, primarily for the compatibility reasons. Windows 10 and a Surface seemed great at first but did really annoying shit like demanding a update when you were in a hurry to do something or randomly switching screens around multiple monitors. Found that you need lots of RAM as well.
