The big shocker was the Packers.

The Packers hadn't selected an offensive skill position player in the first round since picking Rodgers in 2005 - Rodgers has 4 years left on his contract - it was the deepest WR draft in a long time - so the Packers trade up to select...

      ..a quarterback. Jordan Love.

      Wow.

I laughed at the comment that said, 'Rodgers will love Jordan Love like a brother'. If you don't know already, Rodgers' brother's name is Jordan and he hates him.

Not a big fan of Rodgers, so the trade and pick is a bit funny to me.

Have been watching some old NFL games while exercising.

2014 Seahawks Packers, at Seattle, Championship game.

Russell Wilson stunk. The Seahawks stunk. And yet, they burgled a late touchdown through a brave fake punt, and then managed a few minutes of magic at the end to draw it.

I'll be honest, I almost turned off 10 minutes into the third quarter. DIdn't remember the result, and it looked like a dead game to me. How Wrong I Was. This had to be one of the great comebacks to win; up there with the Pats Falcons. Aaron and the Packers must have walked away shaking their heads wondering how they lost.

@nzzp that was the beginning of the end of McCarthy as coach of Packers.

Yeah, amazing with a talent like Rodgers that they didn't do better. What a talent.

Their draft was terrible this year too. If that guys not at Wilson/Brady level, they should have grabbed some of the WR talent running around. Weird times.

Any tips on great games to watch most welcomed, by the way.

@nzzp the NFC title game the year prior - 2013 - 49ers-Falcons is a good watch too.

As a Cowboys fan I would say the 1992-93 NFC Championship game against the 49ers at Candlestick. Their games in the early 90s were always classics because of the rivalry.

                      @Bovidae @KiwiMurph cheers.

One of the more memorable for me was the shitty (I think) wildcard playoff Steelers Bengals a few years back, where the Bengals absolutely blew it through anger and indiscipline. It was one of those rare pro games where people stopped being professional, and just started trying to kill or maim the opposition. Raw, brutal, engrossing but I felt a bit dirty watching tbh. Can google the year if anyone cares.

Burfict is a nasty nasty player

mis-read this and wound up re-watching the 2014 49ers Seahawks championship game. This was one of the ones I watched when I was getting back into NFL.

Kaepernick was great, such a strong running game. In hindsight, the 49ers got stiffed on a few critical calls in the game; if I'd been a fan I'd have been spitting. Marshawn Lynch is amazing, and Wilson's ability to get out of the pocket and make plays was incredible.

Aside from a great finish, the highlight had to be Sherman blowing up on camera about Crabtree:

Well I'm the best corner in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree that's the result you're going to get," Sherman screamed. "Don't you ever talk about me."

When Andrews asked him who was talking about him, Sherman yelled "CRABTREE" before continuing on his rant.

"Don't you open your mouth about the best," Sherman yelled. "Or I'm gonna shut it for you real quick. "

Looked a stretch at the time, turned out to be a bust. Wonder whether the Packers will see the same comparisons in a few years, snatching a QB in the receiver heavy draft

I really would not be surprised if this is Rodgers last season in Green Bay. NFC seems stronger this year (Eagles back to full health, Bucs with Brady etc) so a step back for Packers this year certainly seems possible. I could see him being traded next offseason (I'd keep my eye on the Raiders - Gruden loves veteran QBs).

@nzzp the NFC title game the year prior - 2013 - 49ers-Falcons is a good watch too.

mis-read this and wound up re-watching the 2014 49ers Seahawks championship game. This was one of the ones I watched when I was getting back into NFL.

Also, a notable game for a few things.

Brutal brutal injury to Navarro Bowman - ironically, winning a turnover that wasn't called. Not reviewable, and a massive miss from the officials.

Also notable for Lynch (who's an awesome player) not being able to convert on the goal line at 4th and 1, and having a few occasions where he just didn't get penetration. That's life as a running back, I know. But I will go to my grave arguing that the Seahawks call not to give him the ball in That Patriots Superbowl wasn't terrible, and kept the defence honest by keeping running and passing options open. He's a great RB, but no one is guaranteed yardage. The reason Seattle didn't win that SB was poor play design, and a very average decision from Wilson to throw the ball where he did.

If you're bored, NFL playoff games are usually really high quality and interesting. It's an apex sport; so much money it's insane.

Don Shula passes away aged 90. The winningest coach in NFL history (328 wins, 347 including playoffs) and still the only coach of an undefeated team during a season (1972 Miami Dolphins).

As a Cowboys fan I would say the 1992-93 NFC Championship game against the 49ers at Candlestick. Their games in the early 90s were always classics because of the rivalry.

watching this at the moment. Old. School. The field is atrocious, the commentators (Madden included) are reasonably flat, it's 3:4 ration and standard def ... no wonder we went to the games back then!

That said, interesting arm wrestle game so far (including cheesy 90's ads)
