'Super Rugby' 2021

@barbarian Brisbane would be great. Stadium and location is perfect.
The NRL one was fucking great.
@mariner4life It also reads to me as a play to get Governments to pony up some $$$ to host it. Tourism magnet etc. QLD Government paid handsomely for the NRL Magic round.

given the number of fans from all over that came, i would say it was money well spent

I wonder if serious thought was given so that all teams play their away games consecutively to avoid multiple trans- Ta$man flights. A quick look shows that only the Brumbies and Force are doing that. I am sure the draw could have been adjusted to do that.

Apparently there won't be a combined table. All teams will start on 0 for the TT component, meaning the Aussie sides are fucked.

This was in the article "The Final will be played between the top two placed teams on the combined competition table with the team who finished first to host the decider."

I don't think combined refers to Super Rugby AU/Super Rugby Aotearoa.

I really like this format, I much prefer if the points carry over, reward for doing well in your domestic comp. Also as mentioned means you have potentially 3 sides that can win a trophy. Also a lot of incentive for teams coming second or third to keep playing hard knowing they have the next comp to play for. I guess the flip side is if its starts from fresh the Chiefs could have actually won a comp.
-
In case anyone gives a shit this is what the table would have looked like going into the trans Ta$man comp. Crusaders Blues both got 2 points for their cancelled game.

@chimoaus that table is so unfair
The Reds and the Brumbies weren't lucky enough to get to play the Chiefs twice

So if it starts from scratch it is possible multiple teams could win 5 from 5 and it would come down to BP and PD. I almost would have thought the Aussies would have wanted the points to carry over to at least give them a shot of being in the top 2.

This could happen. But at least this outcome will show how a 12 team competition would be a waste of time. And bad for Aussie rugby

@chimoaus yeah seems like a missed opportunity to give the Aussies a chance without it being a complete gimme.
Under this system it's very likely the best two Kiwi sides will play two finals IMO.
Oh wells. Should be good regardless.

Do they have a final in the SRA 2021 comp or is it just points based?

Four of the five New Zealand Super Rugby franchises will announce their 2021 squads on December 1, with the Crusaders reportedly expected to name their squad the following day.
For some reason I thought it was the 3rd. 4 out of 5 of the Super squads are named tomorrow.
