    Despite the official cancellation of all rep grades below Mitre 10 Cup and Farah Palmer Cup, there will still be several games this year.

    The first one is on Sunday, 6 September (2.30pm): Hawke's Bay Academy XV against King Country.

    This is the Academy squad:

    @Stargazer @kiwimatrix @Number-10 @Stockcar86 @Paj @Magpie_in_aus @Nepia

    The HB Tipping Team is calling for Bay supporters to come together once again as we strive to get our Silver Fern Team TIpping Title back from those damn Bush guys that have managed to tip us over way too often these last few years.

    If interested make sure you get your tips in before the first match between North Harbour and Canterbury at 7.05pm this coming Friday night 11 September.
    We have the combined Counties Manakau-Waikato outfit first up so we hope to hit them with all guns blazing and a full lineup of six tippers that we know will do Hawkes Bay proud. We may even consider abopting @Steven-Harris given his whanau links with the Magpies.
    This is the link to the tipping form https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submit

    and this is the link to the tipping site https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/

    @Higgins when it comes to tipping I'm about as reliable as Nonu during the super rugby season.

    We have four tippers in for the Bay so far with Life Member PAJ, Stockcar86, Propsicle and Billsy (presumably Number10?) all submitting their entries. Hopefully I will remember to get mine in on time and that just leaves the likes of Stargazer et el to go to make sure we have a full roster of at least six tippers. If more than six front up then there will have to be a hastily convened selection panel organised to pick the starting lineup, the most important rating criteria being the ability to more than hold your own at the aftermatch functions! If interested, and the more the merrier, this is the link you will need to submit your entry https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submit

    Remember closing time for the first match tonight is 7.05pm. This competition devised and copyrighted by KP is by far the best one going round in case you need any further persuasion.

    As per usual I will be the team cheerleader - I’m too unreliable to be an actual team member sorry!

    Right, I'm in and my apologies to all, especially you TR, for picking the 'Poo, not to mention taking Ta$man 17+. I'm off to wash my mouth out with soap. Anyway Number10, if you are not Billsy then you can retain your spot in the Team by tipping anyway and I'll move Propsicle into the draft. I will be seeing him at the Wellington v MSP Swindale Shield match tomorrow as I have a gut feeling that I will be owing him a beer that we have at stake in the match and will let him know if that becomes necessary.

    I forgot - keep Billsy in in place of me.

    The HBRU didn't post it until very late, so I missed the livestreamed match of the Hawke's Bay Academy team against Ngati Porou East Coast, this afternoon. The video is still available, so you can still watch it, if you like.

    You can find it here: https://cdn.hbapp.co.nz/news/watch-live-hawkes-bay-saracens-vs-east-coast-rugby-from-12pm

    The HBRU also didn't post the team line-up, but fortunately, the commentators went through the list:

    1 Jayden Walker, 2 Damarus Hokianga, 3 Jacob Ward, 4 Frank Lochore, 5 Tupou Afungia, 6 Lexus Greening, 7 Jacob Stephenson, 8 Hannon Brighouse, 9 Humphrey Sheild, 10 Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong, 11 Joeli Suka, 12 Zach Simpson, 13 Hemaua Samasoni, 14 Ryan Lindeque, 15 John Ika.

    Reserves: Joe Walding-Karaitiana, Troy McIvor, Paula Latu, Dom Devine, Connor McLeod, Duff Penitito, 23 Trent Hape
    (They seemed to forget one player; I don't see a lock in the list of reserves).

    I must admit that there are a few names that I don't recognise.

    Anyway, if you want to know the score, you can find it below:

    :::

    Hawke's Bay Academy 85 - 24 Ngati Porou East Coast

    I just noticed on the sideline app website that they've scheduled the livestreaming of a game between the Hawke's Bay Saracens and Waikato Development, on Sat 19 September (12.55pm). It doesn't mention any cost, so possible free if you've registered with Sideline app.

    Link: https://www.sidelineapp.com/events/2020-club-rugby/schedule/

    Hopefully, it will be possible to watch the game on demand, as it's at the same time as the Wellington v Tui game.

    After a superb victory in the first round of the Tipping Competition the HB team lead the points table by one point. An excellent start guys but it looks like the aftermatch function is still in full swing with tips for this weeks encounter against the always competitive Wellington Tipping team still being awaited from Stargazer, PAJ and Billsy/Number10. Come on chaps we can't afford to front up short of full muster so please give it some urgency given that entries are needed by 7.05pm. If you miss the first game you can still tip the remainder but missing the first game means you chuck a gift ten points away, even if it does mean having to pick Ta$man

    Fifty minutes played in this game and the Hawke's Bay Saracens/Academy (not sure which one it is) are leading 27 to 7.

    I haven't seen a team list, but with a quick glance I recognise Humprey Shield, Liam Udy-Johns, Bas Visinia, Elijah Martin, I think Jacob Devery as well.

    Left wing Joeli Suka (11) scored three tries.

    His first try of the second half was a brilliant one handed grab of an inside pass to him

    Not a single word from the HBRU, but I managed to find out that the Hawke's Bay Saracens beat Wanganui, yesterday. The final score was 36 - 12 to the good guys.

    This team list was posted on Facebook by Wanganui:

    alt text

    Hawkes Bay Saracens 36 (L Greening, F Lochore, Z Simpson, J Ika tries; penalty try; J Thompson-Dunn 2 con)
    Wanganui 12 (W Cottrell, J Bogileka tries; N Harding con).
    HT: 17-5.

    Long match report from Wanganui: https://wanganuirugby.co.nz/wp/2020/09/26/match-report-steelform-wanganui-vs-hawkes-bay-saracens-26-09-20/

    @Paj @Propsicle @Stockcar86 @stargazer @Number-10

    Just taken a call from Triple T of the Bush Tipping Team. Confident prick has taken me on in the Tipping Match between his mob and the Bay for a jug. Naturally the wager was accepted. After mustering a full turnout last week we somehow scrambled a draw against Northland when none of us were at out best. Hopefully that was simply us saving our top form for this week's encounter against the generally impregnable Wairarapa-Bush Team. Upon checking it looks like we are keeping our powder dry with no one having tipped yet, hopefully that it is not complacency setting in but rather an indication that every single aspect that needs to be taken into consideration before making those picks is still being pondered. A tricky situation though in the last match of the round where naturally it is assumed that each and everyone of us will be tipping the away team by some margin or other!

    I actually woke up rather suddenly last night after clearly hearing Micheal Buffer's voice in my crystal clear dream announcing "and the judges score card see a unanimous decision in favour of the team fighting out of the Black corner and NEW" and that's as far as he got. I did not need to hear any more to know exactly what that meant!

    Anyway heres the link to this week's tipping sheet, remember cut off time for tonight's easy ten pointer is 7.05PM
