Yeah - Fihaki picking up Paea's contract would make some sense if we use Dave and Leicester in the midfield. Have we lost Inga Finau somewhere? We're still a bit light on genuine midfield options, so I'd like to see Razor pull a rabbit from a hat somehow.

Awesome pick up by the Canes they just play him out of position,he should be played as a Lock he fits the canes height criteria.

If Segner decides to make himself available for the good guys and turn out in Black one day, with the new rules, would he need to wait five years after leaving school?

@Crazy-Horse Yes, although it seems from the language used in the explanatory guidelines that it could be possible to argue otherwise. In Segner's case, I think there may be a strong case to start counting from the day he reached the age of majority (24 July 2019). Not sure whether there's room for starting the residency period in the new country before the age of majority is reached. They'd need to be able to prove that the parental home no longer constitutes the student's permanent and primary home. I doubt receiving a full school scholarship (even if it makes them financially independent from their parents) will be enough. In any case, it seems necessary to seek a ruling from WR's Regulations Committee. 19 What is the position of students? As far as students are concerned, particularly those that are not financially independent, being resident, as a full-time student, in another country, is likely to be considered as a series of temporary absences from the parental home. It is anticipated that in the majority of cases involving students the parental home is likely to continue to constitute the studentâs permanent and primary home. Accordingly, attendance at school by a person who has not yet reached the age of majority in such circumstances is unlikely to break a Playerâs consecutive period of Residence. However, as in all matters of eligibility, the overriding concern of the Regulations Committee in assessing any such case will be to ensure that there remains a close, credible and established link with the country in which the Player claims to have retained his primary and permanent home. There could be circumstances in which a student living in another country may wish to elect to commence a new period of residency in the country in which they are studying, for example where the Player is attending college/university (having reached the age of majority) in the jurisdiction of another Union and has relocated there on a permanent basis i.e. has only taken short breaks away from that new country as set out in paragraph 16 above. In cases involving students, the relevant Union and Player are advised to request a ruling from the Regulations Committee to ensure compliance in advance of the Player representing the Union. It is not permissible for a Union or educational establishment to offer scholarships or other benefits that restrict a Playerâs ability to choose which Union they wish to represent. (3) The sixty-month residency requirement comes into effect after the cut-off date of December 31, 2021. The residency requirement up to and including December 31, 2021 is âthirty-six consecutive months of Residence immediately preceding the time of playingâ.

@Stargazer Yeah - I mean try to get him approved for a 3 year residency now (start date sometime before 31 December 2018) rather than waiting till say 2022 when we might actually want to pick him, but would need to argue for a start date 5 years earlier (which would be in 2017).
