@mikey07 Yep, but the Chiefs have 4 NPC provinces; the Canes only 3. So you'd only have one game per weekend.

I don't think it's feasible to form a Heartland team from Wai-Bush, Poverty Bay, East Coast, Whanganui and Horo-Kap to make it four, and I don't think one of those provinces on their own would be good enough, even if you'd add non-playing Hurricanes from outside the catchment.

One game could still be useful though.

Could do a game of three halves. You could even do a mini tournament between HB, Manawatu, and Wellington and the Hurricane U20s. It'd be a more even competition then the Hunters game

The teams that played in the Chiefs Centurion Country Cup at Hautapu today were a mixture of everything. Some current Chiefs squadies, NPC players, U20 players and even some in their first year out of school.

That means he'll also miss the Mitre 10 Cup. Good opportunity for Love to take the reins for Wellington (and Morgan on the bench or at fullback).

@stargazer This is Wellington so he has to get past A Morgan first! On second thoughts they will probably sign S Hickey to start for the Lions.

@mikey07 Mayabe not, Fa'atonu Fili has been spotted doing a bit of sly training and must be in with a chance once he loses about another twenty five kgs. Incidentally where is TJ Va'a when you need him?

Don’t say that! Hopefully he still has a couple years on his Auckland contract

It's not bad luck, it's bad decision making.

If the Canes don't want to win another game this year. Why the coaches felt Leger was an option is a mystery. Like a lot of things these coaches so.

It’s difficult to say for sure where Love will slot in on Friday, with Hurricanes coach Jason Holland indicating that they currently see the young playmaker as an outside back, first and foremost.

“He’s a talented young kid who can play anywhere in the backline,” Holland said. “We see him at the moment as an outside back who can cover 10 so who knows where that will end up but at the moment that’s where we see him.

Regular No 10 Jackson Garden-Bachop is set to have surgery on his Achilles, ruling him out for up to nine months, which means the Hurricanes have lost both of their No 10 options from their initial squad after Simon Hickey went down during the pre-season.

Orbyn Leger will start at first five on Friday while Jordie Barrett is an option in the pivotal position, as is Taranaki’s Dan Waite, who’s been called into the squad as injury cover. Love also has experience in the role and Holland indicated that wherever the young utility slots in against the Highlanders, he’ll likely have the chance to show off his playmaking wares.

Love himself has indicated that while he’s more comfortable wearing No 15 at this stage in his career, he’s also happy to play at flyhalf if needed.

“I see myself more in a fullback, outside back kind of role. Going through club, I was playing first five but at the moment I’m not too hung up on where I’m at. I’m just trying to continue to develop my skills all the time and in the future, if I have to try and solidify one, then I’ll deal with that at the time. At the moment, I’m just trying to be an all-round player and be versatile, be able to go anywhere. But I like fullback personally, just because you have more time, more space.”

He won’t go far in the Canes having the dreaded “x-factor” not with these coaches anyway.

@mikey07 He will need to be something stupendously good if he is to surplant the current teachers pet they have cemented in at first five.

@mikey07 these coaches are thick so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he made a late appearance on the wing which doesn't suit his skill set.

Great to see Beauden still celebrates a Hurricanes win.

@sparky I don't think he's celebrating a Hurricanes win. I think he's celebrating his big little brother dominating!

@stargazer Yes, but I've never seen him tweet like that after Scooter wins another game or title for the Crusaders.

im sure he would if Scott scored 30 points. or maybe scored three tries
