Unless Van den Hoven is in the 23 it will be hard to rest both Vaa'i and Ah Kuoi. Naholo seems to be part of the WTG but you have also got the likes of Sullivan and Tiatia who could play on the wing. Lowe hasn't played that much and would be happy to continue to do so, given his lack of gametime at the Canes.

Former All Black and Gallagher Chiefs Co-Captain Liam Messam and Taranaki loose forward Tom Florence have been called in to the Gallagher Chiefs squad as injury replacements. Messam and Florence have been called into the squad following season ending injuries to Kaylum Boshier, Mitchell Karpik and Simon Parker. Gallagher Chiefs loose forward Kaylum Boshier sustained a shoulder injury during the Gallagher Chiefs match against the Hurricanes last weekend in Hamilton. Following scans, it has been confirmed he requires shoulder stabilisation surgery. His expected recovery time is six months. Gallagher Chiefs loose forward Mitchell Karpik sustained a knee injury during training last week. Following further assessment and scans it has been confirmed Karpik will require arthroscopic knee surgery. His expected recovery time is two to three months. Gallagher Chiefs loose forward Simon Parker has had foot surgery for a plantar plate repair. Parker had surgery on Thursday 15 April and his expected recovery time is six months. -
@donsteppa Messam has been training with the team one day a week for a few weeks now. Now, he'll need to turn up daily.

There used to be rules in Super Rugby that if a player wasn't named in the initial squad and was added at a later date, that player had to play an x-number of games before a certain date. If not, that player wasn't allowed to play in the QF, SF and Final. That happened to Messam a few years back, after he returned from Japan. I wonder whether those rules don't apply in SRA, or whether nobody has thought about that.

Common sense should prevail. At the moment the Chiefs have lost 4 of their original loose forwards and only have 3 fit, 4 if you include Finau as a 6.
If Kapeli is also in the squad (Cane's replacement), at least one of Kapeli, Messam or Florence has to be in the 23 this week.

This suggests good news for Tupaea.
Hill also confirmed injured midfielder Quinn Tupaea has been replaced by Waikato utility Gideon Wrampling for just the rest of the Aotearoa campaign.
