Chiefs 2021

There used to be rules in Super Rugby that if a player wasn't named in the initial squad and was added at a later date, that player had to play an x-number of games before a certain date. If not, that player wasn't allowed to play in the QF, SF and Final. That happened to Messam a few years back, after he returned from Japan. I wonder whether those rules don't apply in SRA, or whether nobody has thought about that.

Common sense should prevail. At the moment the Chiefs have lost 4 of their original loose forwards and only have 3 fit, 4 if you include Finau as a 6. If Kapeli is also in the squad (Cane's replacement), at least one of Kapeli, Messam or Florence has to be in the 23 this week.

This suggests good news for Tupaea. Hill also confirmed injured midfielder Quinn Tupaea has been replaced by Waikato utility Gideon Wrampling for just the rest of the Aotearoa campaign.

Sowakula won't be playing for Moana Pasifika as he is signed for the Chiefs until 2023. He'd be wiser to throw his lot in with Fiji now.

Black and white eyepatch or not, I thinkJonah Lowe had a great game for the Chiefs in the Final, and more generally, a very good SRA season. I'm glad the Chiefs' coaches gave him a good shot at it (starting in most games), and I think he's repaid their trust. It boggles the mind that the Hurricanes never gave him a chance, despite all the signs being there that he could become a good SR player during M10 Cup and preseason. I'm really pleased for him and hope he'll continue to develop into a great SR player! I hope the Chiefs have already re-signed him for the next few seasons.

Lowe has been a good signing for the Chiefs but I'd like to see him back himself a bit more when he is in space. Maybe as @Bones says, he lacks a little top-end speed.

@bovidae Not sure about lacking top-end speed. He almost caught Nareki - who had a headstart - in the Chiefs v Highlanders game. It's probably more a matter of lacking that explosiveness for the first 10-20 metres, but he's very fast when sprints are longer.

I think that sometimes he tends to like the physicality of smacking into a player to make a ruck with that low driving style similar to his brother.
