it is wasted energy holding grudges against corporations.

No, no, no. You are failing the GoM test big time. I have companies that I won't deal with even though I don't remember why not. I just know that they were fluffybunnies 30 years ago so fuck 'em. Nobody that was there at the time is likely to still be there, but I will stand my ground. I may not remember why, but I was right at the time and I still am.

@snowy My father will cut his nose off to spite his face when it comes to not dealing with corporations.

There are certainly plenty that I will avoid where possible, but sometimes you have to dance with the devil.

Now anyone got recommendations of good Telcos to deal with?

This article doesn't look promising for Vodafone - seems they are even more complained about than Spark. (Only Viagogo is more complained about than these two!).

Revealed: NZ's most complained about companies

@nzzp @Chris-B The govt mandated that email addresses had to be portable.

My original ISP pulled out of the retail - I pay $5 / mth to keep it

there's a regulation (like cellphone numbers) I can get behind.

Always respected your Dad, a wise man. You should listen to him more.

You are making a gross assumption that there is even one. Least bad might work better.

@Chris-B one if the often in-noticed benefits of fibre is that you are on a nice new network with few problems that means that you hardly ever have to deal with your ISP. Set it up, put a direct debit in place and with luck you don’t have to deal with Mumbai.
Sadly for you is that even if you do convince another ISP that they can hook you up to a VDSL connection you will still be on ancient infrastructure and probably have to deal with them from time to time.
But yeah, much of a muchness between them so for you getting that connection is key.

@crucial So far, Skinny is the only one I've hit that says VDSL is available with them.

Of course, the question is, whether that is actually true - but, it gives them an inside track.

That’s hilarious as Skinny is just a brand of Spark.
