im going to start giving a trigger warning before i give out my number from now on, just to be safe
edit: have to add i love how no one can argue there needs to be some cadence to how you give your number...but lets still all have a friendly pile on about HOW its done

I always have to spell my last name, and always have to start with 'B for Bravo' otherwise people use a 'V'
I have to spell out both my names and there's a part in my last name that people just never hear and then spell incorrectly. I actually think my Dad's Maori surname would have been easier for people to spell than the english version he gave us kids.
-
all three of my names are spelt just slightly different than "normal", not like modern weird spellings "its pronounced david...but with two x's and a q"...just enough that i cant just say..."like normal"
and our street address is 6 which the aussie love asking me to repeat

I don't get 6 very often, but I have had odd conversations about pens/pins, and that's with workmates from different countries.

@crazy-horse this is interesting. Agreed you cant just give the 10 digits with no break but i give mine as 4, 2, 4 because i a have a couple of number double ups and that flows better
Well, I hope you and @Nepia don't end up having to give me your mobile number. Give it to me like that and I will be finding a ticket to write you!
typical cops, abusing their power to get their prefered phone number configuration! to the streets! its government overreach....my number my choice...etc
It keeps us sane.
I didn't realize numeral cadence kept modern cops sane out on the beat. In my day it was doughnuts.

I think it's more worrying that not keeping cadence can set an armed man off.
Also, if I was a cop your use of the American z instead of s would have set me off. I'd be accessing Police databases now trying to track you down.

I think you will find that ize can be and often is used interchangeably with ise in UK English now.
-
@nostrildamus Now I have to reject UK English.
The best part of my current job is that I can insist on (for staff and students alike), what used to be UK English, which is now Nepia English, I guess.

Interestingly, I'm a hypocrite, I don't usually have an issue with donut. I tend to refer to US style (Krispy Kreme, Dunkin) as donuts, and good old bakery and NZ style (cream) as doughnuts.

because American Donut is too close to Doh!nut and Doughnut is made of Dough...I do have some (slight) etymological principles...
Have I told you the time I was bailed up for writing artefact instead of artifact by an American and a guy from the mother country had to step in and defend me? No?
The scars run deep... -
@nostrildamus ...i want to hear that story now

To cut a long story short, there are very educated Americans out there that don't realize there exists different spelling in the UK to America (let alone the colonies).

Probably a statement to avoid if you've picked up an Aussie accent.
