Mandatory "Cultural Competence" training.
Oh yeah. That shit.
We've got one of our "People and Culture" goals in our annual review called: "Just 1 Thing". The idea is that we're all going to fight for the rights of the people in the LGBTQI+ and ATSI communities. People to whom I cannot relate basically anything in my life experience.
I don't really know where to start with this. I am fully supportive of everyone we work with in terms of their sexuality or indigenous status. If anyone steps out of line on this, I'll be the first one to call out their bullshit. And my boss knows that.
But if the idea is that everyone else has to actively pursue an activity that shows we're waving flags or girding our loins for war, then how does it in any way normalise the very people we're trying to protect.
Come to me when there is a problem. Otherwise, accept my silence as tacit support for everyone's choices. We're working here, not having a parade.

This, so much. It's not doing anything except generating backlash.
- The people who "need" to be educated - aren't going to be... They're not going to do anything but hold it up as something to fight against.
- The people who don't... just... don't. And if nothing else, might become disillusioned, and backlash themselves.
I'm tempted to become a "Corporate Inclusivity&Sensitivity Consultant" with just the tagline: "Just... don't be a fluffybunny"

Just put a rainbow flag in your work email signature block so you can point to it if asked then move on with your life.

The Rainbow flag is a slippery slope to the Trans Ally Flag and then all the others.
Before you know it, your sig block is more vexillology than signature...

My current workplace has templates for that very purpose. So you can virtue signal with the least amount of effort.
Now as an organisation we're advocating for "The Voice", so a couple of hours should change the racists amongst us. Not sure how that changes anything we actually do, but I'm sure the shareholders no longer worry about profitability.

Jeez, really??? The Voice is an absolute minefield. How can an organisation advocate for this?

Once got myself into a power of shit on a similar course about "Respect". This clown of a presenter started pointing out how the use of the word "black" in words like blackmail, etc proved how deep-seated racism was in a mainly-white society. I disagreed and asked him if he was whitewashing the native language.
Got a letter from HR accusing me of being disruptive. Sadly threw it away as I should have framed it.

Our cat is mainly black with a few white patches.
Is there a more politically correct way of describing her ? I’d hate to offend anyone.

How offensive
True. “They” could be any number of genders. I can’t believe I didn’t ask.
I need to educate myself.

Right, I'm sitting on a train to London from Cornwall and there's been disruption near London which seriously fucks up our plans.
We got on the train having been told it was all cleared up only to find out from Google, once on board, that London Paddington was closed. The fluffybunnies told the news networks before informing their customers.
What's even worse was the way these pricks failed to tell their own staff, letting their people take the flak from rightly pissed-off customers.
The arseholes at the top need sacking. Preferably as painfully as possible..
-
@Victor-Meldrew I hope you have enough coal on board to make it to the new destination.
