But fuck, maybe I'm just in the minority here amd out of touch, and maybe all the average punters really wants is hot chips and a crappy pie. Its certainly the lowest effort and if the $ aren't there from changing then I guess why would they?

You cant tell me all those people running the food trucks wouldn't love the opportunity to serve food at 10x the scale throughout the match.

Yes they fucking would but firstly they can't serve at 10x the capacity and secondly can't afford the buy-in or the contract defaults.

I'd love to win $20M but there are a few noticeable hurdles in the way.

There are a stack of food trucks set up between the stadium and the gate. They probably did alright.

        I mean 10x as a collective , not each - i.e. 10x the number of operators, not 1 x truck increasing production 10fold.

As for the contract buy-in, again, thats totally at the control of stadium management, they can do what they want there.

All I know is that I saw loads of folk with their own food, and I know I personally would have spent 5x what I did spend last night if the food was quality.

Ten times the number of contracts for the stadium, so more lawyer costs, so higher contracts....

It is like the hippo-with-wings problem: if you give a hippo wings it is too heavy to fly unless you give it more muscle mass... which needs bigger wings to lift the increased weight which means more muscle mass which means...

As for the contract buy-in, again, thats totally at the control of stadium management, they can do what they want there.

        They can.

And they do i.e. screw the catering operator(s) hard for profit, which results in the operator going for the lowest cost employees and food options, which results in the cheapest food with the lowest chance of them getting sued.

Always hard to read a game from the end of the field, but it was illustrative to watch the number of times we were short on defence e.g. Karl T's try was everyone running open like a bunch of U8s chasing the ball, leaving 2 guys to defend the AB forward pack.

Should be mentioned that the rain had pretty much stopped before kickoff, so despite a bit of surface water (excellent drainage at ANZ) these conditions would be less than challenging for professionals - I mean look at the number of stupid offloads we tried, so obviously we were confident to try that 🙄

AB game plan was smart - direct play up the middle of the field and put in some short kicks to test the back three, and it worked because DHP's injury turned him into an even slower cart horse with tits for hands. Koroibete continues to be sub-par with ball in hand tho he put on some nice hits.

I don't know whether it was just a bit of hope after we showed some fire in NZ, or the fact I spent money on tickets, but I'm pretty flat after that loss. Yes I realise we've had to chop and change a few personnel but that doesn't alter the fact our mostly unchanged forward pack for 3 games got beaten silly.

And to be clear: the cupboard is bare. That is pretty much all we've got in terms of personnel available and Rennie just has to work with that. His comment about being 6 weeks into a 4 year plan is solid IMHO, but we might be lucky to squeak 2 wins against Argentina this year if we're lucky.

Therefore, simply changing personnel is not going to improve results.

Was there anyone left that Nic White didn't try to fight?

Clearly concussed after the elbow t the head. He probably should have been taken off for HIA if he was punchier than usual.

@NTA Strangely I don't think the issue is the forwards, your set piece was the best yet with the lineout very good and only losing a couple of scrums. The biggest issue was just the schoolboy errors that made it next to impossible to build any pressure. The option taking was some of the worst I have seen and likely just due to nerves, overenthusiasm, and inexperience.

The AB's were also clinical, and it appeared they had a very specific game plan to find space in front of the fullback and wingers and we got a lot of return from Smiths precision box kicks. You just can't gift the AB's possession and expect to be competitive.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed but after Moungas first try where they switched behind the scrum and he stepped the hooker and blew past the 10. They went to the coaches box and Brad Mooar had a grin that suggested that was planned well in advance. I felt several plays had been identified pre game and the players just executed very well. The Sotutu try was also interesting as I don't think he ran once from the back and then they have the confidence to run that move and RI scores.

Suncorp will likely be more competitive with JOC back at the helm.

Lets just hope the "pictures" the new Wallabies saw tonight don't scare them long term.

I agree that our errors were costly, but I'm looking at our failure to defend the maul for Coles' try and our lack of penetration carrying the ball. I thought our scrum was unlucky not to get another 1-2 penalties actually after the ABs stood up under pressure a couple of times but it was play on.

Again: i've not seen the broadcast of the game but from end on we looked like we weren't getting the upper hand at the collisions.

@NTA Yep the Scrums were pretty much the most even yet from what I could see. I don't think they were embarrassed at the collisions in close, Fritzel went backwards a few times as did Karl and others. Whenever that happened Smith seemed to put up a box kick and the Wallabies just fucked up their possession and we often got the ball back in a better spot.

I didn't watch Super Au, but he's certainly big enough.

Based on the outcomes I'm not sure Hannigan for Samu has beesn an improvement.

I think Tupou should start, and hope O'Conner back.

Liked Rennie’s comment that he guaranteed that they'd be better next time.

If we'd stolen a few more lineouts and been 100% on our own, I'd be satisfied. But it hasn't worked out that way.

I think the better scrum work from Alaalatoa justifies his starting spot over Tupou - who IMHO is better for later in the game where he can run at gaps and use his hands while fresh. Something like the role Coles plays of Seagull Extraordinaire to threaten the midfield and wider channels.

Liked rennie's comment that he guaranteed that they'd be better next time.

Lets hope he means the Wallabies.

                            I agree, extremely grating personality.

He’s no Joe Moody, Jerome Kaino, Liam Squire or Damian McKenzie.

There’s no way I’d have brekky with him even if he was shouting.

Anyone else notice big Karl get confused after he scored, he moved the ball over the line back into the field of play thinking that was the in goal.

But fuck, maybe I'm just in the minority here amd out of touch, and maybe all the average punters really wants is hot chips and a crappy pie. Its certainly the lowest effort and if the $ aren't there from changing then I guess why would they?

No, I think largely society has moved on and agrees with you about the quality of the food BUT it is an 8PM kickoff with a 100 minute window to cater to tens of thousands under a large number of contractual and governmental strictures.

The lesson is: eat beforehand and bring a thermos.

@Machpants nah I reckon he knew he was on hhe wrong side and thought if he gave it to us he avoids a penalty.

On big Karl, yea looked like he is placing it back for the 9, which was pretty luck really cos if he doesnt score himself with 3 men outside....

It's certainly one of the reasons why I don't get out for games. I can take the family out for a nice meal then go home and watch the game while Al Bundying on my sofa without having to worry about being rained on. I can also have an esky full of beers and snacks and I'd still be paying less than if we all went to the stadium. It's a freaking ripoff and I can't believe people actually pay those prices, not only for actually getting in, but some soggy farking chips and 400ml of XXXX Gold in a plastic cup. And what if your team loses!!!!

I was just so happy when he caught the ball ! I think it would have been asking too much for him to pass as well!
