@mariner4life He's a good player - he just doesn't have a position and he was playing well. Doesn't that qualify him for the bench?

i think the bench is a good spot. He still looks like a stop gap on the wing, and i think his brother cemented his spot last weekend.

If he came on at 12 for the ABs in a tight test, i would get very nervous. If he came on at 10 i think i would get heart arrhythmia

Which was pretty much what I said, but we have to cover 7 back positions with 3 players. He can do that more than most.

I was talking injury cover not sending him on as a 10 hence the "really desperate".

If I were picking the team, he'd start with BB at 10. However, given that BB has probably cemented his role at 15 for now, I agree that the bench is where Jordie could/should be.

The thing is that the biggest benefit of picking him on the bench is that you can consider a 6/2 split (which I totally think we try once btw). Then, assuming you start Ioane on the wing, Jordie would be the primary FB cover, wing cover, 2nd option for midfield, and 3rd option for 10 (possibly 4th given TJ is there and it would be a real emergency with at least two injuries for it to happen). We could then load up with Aoane, Kirifi, and Barrett/Vaii for ball runners late in the game.

But if we are going to have three backs on the bench, it's going to be TJ + two of Dmac/Laumape/Ioane/Jordan/Reece/Jordie. Then, I'm not sure I see the benefit, especially if they start Jordan, which they should do. Jordan covers 15, and with Ioane there (especially), there is (more) specialist midfield cover and wing cover too. So, if Jordan or Ioane are there, playing Dmac on the bench kind of makes more sense, as he covers the first receiver option better and covers FB. If it's Laumape on the bench, then Jordie might make more sense as he'd cover wing/FB.

I think they are trying to shoe horn Jordie into 14 this year so that he can start next year, as I think the plan is still for BB to be away. At that point, I guess we'll have - Dmac or Joane on the bench, in a more common breakdown.

agree with heaps you say (not all though, this is the Fern obviously)

but i think this might be the most pertinent point.

We, as rugby fans of a certain vintage, see the All Blacks as a rep team, selected from the best players right now, to play games now.

In reality, the All Blacks is a team in its own right. Super Rugby is where you show something to get in, but that's pretty much it. Decisions are not made for the now, there is always a planning element involved. Development is done "in house" in a specific way that benefits the All Blacks at some point in the future.

It's why we get upset at decision that don't seem logical given the shit we see. To AB management, i imagine Super Rugby is a very small part of what gets a player in. I doubt NPC rugby is even a consideration any more.

                Moody could be doubtful too.

                  Good spot!

I didn't realise Moody was touch and go? I hear Whitelock is making noises that he is good to go despite not much contact training?

                      @antipodean

I kind of agree, as it means that JG or ALB have to move, but I kind of see Jordie the same way.

He’s really a FB, and WC there, but everywhere else there are far better options - I don’t even really think he should be our primary wing cover (Ioane would be better).

@Hooroo I know Aaron Smith is small but you shouldn't forget him. 😉

                          Moody could be doubtful too.

                          Good spot!

I didn't realise Moody was touch and go? I hear Whitelock is making noises that he is good to go despite not much contact training?

He still has to go through the HIA return-to-play protocols. Moody might be able to play, or they decide to give him another week.

Yes, Whitelock's return seems to be more certain. Also should be the first time our top 3 locks are in the 23.

If Clarke is 1.84, Jordan is 1.88 and Sotutu 1.92 that photo looks about right.

Yep - though Clarke is listed widely on the interweb at 1.89.

                            Height can be useful.

Ask Mitch Hunt about the end of the North South match.

Isn't Beauden only scheduled to miss Super rugby - i.e. he'll be back for the international fixtures (well, maybe not any June internationals)?

I hope we lock up the Bledisloe this weekend, especially so that Fozzie can take a bit more license with his selections (which, I'm more interested to see than any anxiety-inducing winner takes all fixture).

Barring injury and including Aaaron Smith, I'd think the team Hooroo named is nailed in for this weekend.

Plus (assuming everyone is fit and I haven't missed any babies) a bench of Hodgman, Taylor, Lomax, Vaa'i, Papali'i, TJ, Ioane, DMac. (Edit: sort of Snap gt12 - Laulala's on paternity leave, isn't he?).

Also edit - it will be Scott Barrett on the bench...

Something about Coles getting back into preinjury form just gives me wood.

He was one of the main reasons we didn't beat the Lions. He has the x factor

Pissed off. About 40 of us at Renegades Rugby got tickets for $89 and now our associate union got hold of $49 😐

As you should be, we've held out to see what the Brumbies can do for us, but I'm going riding that weekend so won't be attending.
