Argentina Two: Newcastle, 28 November

Forwards so much better, backs still look out of shape, jb seems to have spent more time in the midfield or the other wing than his own
@Kiwiwomble probably blame Coles more for that tbf to Jordie.
-
We aren’t getting much in attack from our midfield so our 10,14 and 15 are taking matters into their own hands. Not always taking the best option.
Shame we’ve left a few points out there. Overall the defensive pressure and ruck work has been top drawer.
@ACT-Crusader Unfortunately there just isn't a big, powerful, quality 12. Two skillful and accurate 13s, but neither are good 12s at test level.

Watching the scrums again, Akira and SB really seem to have added some oomph.
And Laulala can scrum better than Lomax.
Against newbies? Sure.
I'm not sure this is a fair comparison.
@Chester-Draws I thought he came on last game and made an immediate impact. I'm not a complete Laulala fan, his ball security can get sloppy and I'm not sure he's a world-class scrummager but today and last game he looked ok, I bow to your expertise here though..

A more clinical AB team would have put this game beyond reach, already.
The maligned Scott has been the best Barrett so far!

It helps Scott that BB isn't a FB. And JB isn't a wing

@Yeetyaah I know coles can be scary but not need to run all the way to the other side of the foeld

Argie defense is very good. We're doing a pretty good job wearing them down, the tackle count is going to catch up with them big time in the final 20 if that continues.
I can understand the chips over their line, it's forced them to think twice about rushing up which gives us a bit more space. But we've overdone it with the cross field kicks, that's a really low percentage option.
Akira has been excellent. Just offers so much more than any other 6 in NZ right now. If we're going to use Ardie as an 8 then it's critical we have a 6 that can dominate the physical encounters.
More of the same in the 2nd 40 and the game will start opening up.
-
Laulala is having his best ever game in black. Akira is having a blinder. Best player on the field so far.
@cgrant and a shame not to see his team mate starting at 8. Edit: actually Savea has played well but I'm a Sotutu at 8 fan.

Well, **** And only a small portion of credit goes to the defense.
Our ability to beat defender 1-on-1 is evident, but mostly it's decision making that is killing us. Such a clear lack of patience and a want for the hero pass/kick.
Very hard to watch.
That's test footy. Just hope the ground work we've laid pays dividends.
Coz hanging on desparately and staying in the contest is also test footy.

Just want to see us accept that another 4-5 phases are necessary sometimes. Even if the 2-3 prior ones didn't breach the ad line. Take stock, reset , punch again
And if we are rumbling forward, definitely put the damn boot away!!!

Don't get snarky. I just don't think this is a fair comparison given the greenness off the opposition.
-
@Yeetyaah He might be a decent 12 if he was partnered with a big, straight running 13. Think he would be better with that kind of 12 inside him though.
@Tim who would you pick in the AB midfield?
-
@Yeetyaah nah ALB is defs a 13. He’s more of a skilled offloader that likes getting to the outside versus the crash ball type player that a 12 usually needs to be.
Foster should have kept Peter Umaga-Jensen in Aus. He’s probably the best suited to make a shift to 12.

@Chester-Draws sorry I was serious! I'm not a prop!

@nostrildamus To be honest I don't think there are the options right now. Hoping Umaga-Jensen and Tele'a come on next year.
-
Aussie commentators just claimed the argies best Aussie last week “aiming to win three straight”
-
Akira with the steal, awesome
-
Changes early in the second half:
- Sotutu for Savea.
- Jordan for Jordie.
- Josh for Rieko.
