@Siam said in Australia v India:

The game has been in rude health for a decade now, coincidentally ever since the game was wrested from England and Australia.

There are maybe three competitive Test teams at any one time, and then a huge cliff.

So I don't think much has changed there.

I think currently there probably is some decent competition there - but over that decade Siam referenced, you really had Australia, England, and India, then sparks from the others. More victories have come for the BCs recently - like the last few years where besides a pretty shocking run over here in Tests, you pulled off some good wins. But go back a few years and you were losing the odd game to the Windies.

South Africa probably hover around that fourth spot but their depth and form at home was significantly different to away - bloody-minded performances from Faf aside.

Australia have lacked consistency as well - sometimes they're not one of those 3 good teams. India's consistency is probably the best. England were mighty at home but got pantsed here.

        It comes and goes.

South Africa were the best team for most of the last decade, which, I think is the period siam referenced.

Splitting hairs a bit but since monkeygate, when all the world realised that Australia had no authority or willingness to send them home mid tour (they didn't behave well on that tour and telling them to piss off seemed right to me), then we wrestled with their DRS stubbornness and we all ( rightly imo) feared a bullying plutocracy.

But hats off to them after that. The BCCI appeared to retire into the corner a bit and definitely provided financial opportunities across the board. AUS and especially NZ took advantage of the new ICC in Dubai and now it's all very amiable, I reckon.

But I've been playing equally in Indian teams and Aussie teams for the last 30 years, as the only outsider often. Got "brothers" from both countries, so I'mnot completely objective.

Both cricket "cultures" are pretty much the same actually when you cross the boundary rope. Great camaraderie and friendships and dodgy shenanigans in equal measure by both too!πŸ™‚

I prefer it when they get on.

Either way, he needs to get some new material. Didn't he use the exact same line on Kohli last time India toured?

Paine: I can't wait to see you at the GABBA.

Ashwin: I can't wait to see you in India, it will be your last series.

That's a quality comeback from Ashwin.

Seeing Tim Paine as specialist keeper/captain must give Australia a taste of what we went through during the Lee Germon period of NZ cricket.

Have very little sympathy for Paine. Tries to project an aura of nicey goodie two shoes, but is apparently a dick.

At least Wade doesn't try to hide it.

Interesting that the two blokes with the sledging and dickness yesterday were their least accomplished and most vulnerable to non-selection.

Edit: damn. Forgot Smith's pettiness in the scraping of the crease. There goes that theory.

Is there any way they would make Smith Captain again? I would. He is obviously the team leader

@Hooroo might help his batting as well πŸ˜‰

A well written article about Paine and the sledging.

@Gunner not sure it hadn't slipped some time ago

Paine: I can't wait to see you at the GABBA.

Ashwin: I can't wait to see you in India, it will be your last series.

That's a quality comeback from Ashwin.

Followed by "are you a selector here now?"

Tho I'm not sure if Paine was indicating he wouldn't make it to India or not πŸ˜‰

Ashwin should have come back with "well I would certainly select you".

                                        Maybe too subtle for Paine?

Short memories around the place, Tim Paine was MoTM just two tests ago! Has the second highest batting average of any Aussie keeper (behind Gilchrist), and despite a tough few hours is still as good a gloveman as we have.

Banter was a bit much late, but they were pushing to win a crucial test, been in the field all day, and it was more annoying than offensive. Happy to give him the benefit of the doubt given his track record so far.
