Yeah they ping you for anything apparently. It's quite an effort to get it first time these days.
......and I stand by my belief that if someone grabbed me with no warning and made me do a restricted test I would 100% fail due to all the bad habits I've picked up over the years. Anyone who says different is a liar.

@MN5 unfortunately not, within 500m of starting, thought she had moved to 60km zone, but was 50, immediate fail.
I sat in.the back as you hear.stories of some testers being dicks, thats not much fun, especially when she had.somehow turned the air-conditioning off, and I was overheating in the back, but not allowed to ask her to put it on!
Was amusing seeing all these muppets on the road while she is doing her test, not indicating, speeding, all sorts of poor driving.and she's.there trying to do everything perfectly just to pass her test that most people couldn't pass.
Most of her friends failed at least once, while TR Jnr and his mates, most passed 1st time.

Like most teenagers he'll absolutely hammer the accelerator after coming to a complete stop but after enduring this multiple times and fearing severe whiplash I told him if it doesn't stop then the lessons won't continue. "But Dad" he correctly points out. "You don't do all of that"

I want him getting his restricted first time if at all possible.
Best of all he said I'm a much better teacher than his mother. In front of her. I'll take that win.
We're taking the shitty spare Vitz out, no reversing camera and we listen to old CDs from the garage ( the ones that aren't all scratched to shit ).
.....and naturally I'm counting down to when he can pick me up from the pub ! Happy days
( not that I actually go to the pub much anymore being a sad GOM )
I thought it was an acknowledged rule that you never teach your own kid to drive? A family friend taught me back in the day.

I did mine with the handbrake on.
For some reason I did the test in an old Hillman Hunter we had because it had a smoother gearbox despite the fact I had learn't in my own Mazda - I think my Mazda was too sporty looking.
Anyway the Hillman had the handbrake on the drivers side door so I just forgot about it. I think it helped me as it kept my speed down a bit. At the end when I realised I pulled out my best Marlon Brando impression to make it look like I was putting the handbrake on.

Yeah there's quite a few instant fails and whilst that's something we've all done it certainly pays not to do it in a test ! I didn't know parents were allowed to ride along though ?!?!?! not sure if the boy would tolerate that.
@Nepia yeah the stories we've heard would indicate that but I promised to work on my patience and he promised to work on actually listening to me. Seems to be going well so far. There isn't actually a hell of a lot of teaching now, it's more a case of him going for a drive up the coast and me tagging along.

Yeah, this story springs to mind.....
If I legitimately passed my license ( which is a pretty scary, tense thing to do ) and had to do it again I would be furious.
I'm slightly dreading having to teach him to parallel park without a reversing camera. I'll be extremely rusty. But the little shit reversed perfectly down our drive without one so he'll probably be fine.

@MN5 I mostly taught her but we also got her lessons.
She def not as natural as her brother, but then he was riding motorbikes, mowing lawns on the ride on for years before so had a.better understanding of driving.

Yeah I think we're gonna get the boy to have a couple of proper lessons beforehand too.
$167 is a bit of cash for him to fork out so I'm hoping he gets it first time.

Yeah first time around I jumped the kerb on the first corner outside the police station, then did the rest of the fucking test perfectly, but got failed on that first 30 odd metres. So easy to make one crucial fuck up, so don't get him too set on passing first time, then he knows if he sits it again he just has to do the same thing but lose the mistakes, pressure off.

Those were the words I got from the doc at the titty unit upon being called in for a follow up to a biopsy after I found a lump on my moob.
"Ok....so is that really bad?"
"I can't really tell you, I'm a breast cancer specialist. Have you got any other questions?"
Well fuck of course I don't, you can't answer them.
Cue 24 hours of wild panic and alcohol consumption while Dr Google gets cranked up to 11. Hourly checking of the fucking app for my letter and results, which should have been uploaded immediately but for no reason took a whole fucking day.
Finally the letter is uploaded. Mentions it's non Hodgkin's, then the diagnosis:
DIAGNOSIS
Right breast, core biopsies: Features are of low grade follicular lymphoma (grade 1-2). Non Hodgkin's.Guess what? If you're going for a ride on the C train, that is ultra luxury first class with all the perks.
This cunting fluffybunny of a doctor had those very words written in front of her and decided that all she could leave me with was lymphoma, blood cancer.
Annnnyway....long story short, fucking result! Lowest grade of the lowest grade basically.
Likely to either be pretty much live the rest of my life as I would have anyway, just with regularish checks, or if I'm lucky enough for it to be localised and not have got into the bone marrow, a couple of weeks of radiotherapy and I'll be rid of it (cherry on top being if I do it on NHS my health insurance will flick me a hundy for each treatment, so I'd be cancer free and have earned a cool grand in the process).
So... just like me on Friday afternoon, as you were.
