I’m in the ANA lounge drinking a Sapporo beer from an automatic machine, about to fly home to see my parents - after more than two years - and life is bliss. My boy is here watching TV quietly, while I load up on booze before we climb onto a sky couch then wake up in NZ.

One GOM point - when did kiwis become the new Americans? The lounge is full of people wearing masks unless they are eating or drinking, except for two loud fluffybunnies who are clearly kiwis. Loud, annoying, rude, everything I’d expect from Americans, and yet.

Wicked mate, enjoy the family time. Stoked for you

We aren't the only country where mask use is a thing. Maybe it will wind down when Summer comes. I certainly got used to going without pretty quick on a recent trip to the islands. The ones that amuse me the most are the people that walk outside wearing masks

i choose to believe people doing that are feeling a bit crook and just dont want to pass it on, or for the same reason ive been working from home this week, we head back to NZ this weekend (after the final round of club rugby) and just dont want to get crook before going

As long as people are just doing their own thing...im trying to move on

congrats @gt12 ....hope to be having a Speights within the next 36 hours myself

@gt12 fantastic news, although the weather is dicey in parts, been a wet old winter!

As to the masks, its the same out and about, some wear them, some dont, but as @Crazy-Horse says, then there are those that wear them in a car by themselves...saw 2 yesterday, winning!

Isn't @gt12 saying that the two drunk NZers were the only ones not wearing masks ....

I was in a cafe this morning and didn't put my mask on to order a coffee, and a lady next to me that was masked up said "go and stand over there!" as she didn't want me near her without a mask on. So some people are still very much on board with the fear mongering around Covid.

@No-Quarter and yet, how much easier would it have been for her to stand further away, which is what I do.

I was walking outside on a path in a park yesterday without a mask. Woman did a wide detour around me on the muddy grass. Maybe she had COVID. More likely she is fearful of getting it. Outside in the fresh air

She may have just thought you look really creepy ?

    Rant 1:

Mrs TA goes away on a girl's weekend. Comes back with advice from one friend who is about to get into their fourth investment property, using a company to handle all the day-to-day as part of their self-managed super fund. Mrs TA remarks that it is a very good idea that we should look into.

Yes. An idea I suggested about ten years ago when it was apparent things were going stupid with property in Sydney. Where I proposed that this thing called "equity" existed within our property, and that we'd be mad not to at least look at using it for our longer-term financial health.

At the time, struck down as too risky. No discussion. Have suggested it a couple of times since, to no avail.

Yet, here we are, out of the blue, deciding it is an option based on the advice of a friend.

It is a longstanding pattern at this point; various things I suggest are utterly worthless unless a friend has come up with it, or I simply go ahead and do it and the results are evident.

I'm not saying I make every post a winner, but I'm a bit sick of feeling like my ideas and opinion don't matter.

    Rant 2:

I've had a winter where I've been a bit sick on and off. Flu earlier in the season which was pretty mild, but then on- and off-again colds in between rugby injuries. And I'm fully responsible for the self-inflicted stuff, I get that.

Anyway, this week was a bit of Groundhog Day. On Sunday I was out refereeing in the sunshine, and started to feel a bit poorly Monday. Tuesday was shit (probably because I dosed up the night before on cough syrup and cold n flu tabs), but been getting steadily better. Besides using a bit of nasal decongestant I'm nearly back to normal.

Mid-week, Mrs TA asks me (once) if I had a PCR. I said I hadn't and that's the discussion about PCR for the week.

Due to go help out with Ground Marshal duties at Subbies Rugby finals today. Mrs TA gets up and this was the conversation:

    Part 1
Her: "Do you want to do a RAT?"
    Me: "Why? I'm getting better"
Her: "Well that doesn't help the rest of us..."
    Me: "FINE."

    Part 2
Take the RAT and it has a T line whose existence is in question. It is practically non-existent unless you're holding it the right way in the right light, and even then I don't find them accurate at all.
She starts up that I need a PCR and starts talking about the fact that if I've got COVID she needs to know because she's due to visit her Mum today in the home, and she needs to know if she's a close contact for work etc.

I'm visibly pissed off at this point.
Me: "Why wait until Saturday? Was it not important when we were out at dinner last night?"
I'm picking up car keys and a mask and head toward the garage.
Her: "I've been asking you to get a PCR all week so don't take a shot at me"
Me: "I'm not taking a shot at you"
    Her: "Yes you are"
Me: "OK fine I am" and leave to get the PCR while she does the grocery shopping.

So now I'm sitting here in the office, isolated and catching up on my streaming. I'll be here all day, unless the PCR somehow comes back negative before I'm due to leave to help out at Rugby.

    My frustrations:

Part 1: "Do you want to do a RAT?" could have just been "Can you please do a RAT as I have to visit Mum today?"
This, again, is an ongoing pattern like "Do you want to get the washing in?" just bugs the shit out of me.
Ask what you want, don't sound so passive-aggressive about it.

Part 2: The retconning of statements. "I've been asking all week" is patent bullshit. Building on what I said above, I'd have been more likely to go get a PCR if she'd asked me Thursday "Can you please get a PCR today? I'm visiting Mum this weekend and just want to be sure I'm not a close contact."

Because the fact is, if I'm faintly positive on a RAT, and just got a PCR, the results aren't going to be back until it is too fucking late for your visit.

I was looking forward to an afternoon watching live rugby from the sideline, with no stress besides checking player IDs and managing any yellow cards.

Now I'm in limbo and have let people down on late notice. If that test comes back negative I'll be less than happy.
