Hopefully the Palestinian and Jordanian don't both just bring hummus and bread

Hopefully the Palestinian and Jordanian aren't both thinking "hope the Kiwi doesn't do Pavlova - it's just meringue and whipped cream FFS. Yeah and isn't it dinki di Aussie anyway?"

We're already doing a roast chicken as the "main" - plus I live in inner city Sydney, like I can afford lamb after paying my accomodation costs. πŸ˜‰

@Hooroo We hosted Xmas at my place last Sunday as partners mother is in hospital after a succession of strokes. Did a standing rib roast on BBQ. Makes me proud to be a carnivore

@dogmeat if we ever manage a fern get together it has to have a BBQ challenge element to it. There are some talented meat wranglers around here.

@voodoo It would be most compelling viewing. Reckon we've got a range from drunken masters to the stone cold Heston-type protein scientists - at least one meltdown or your money back ha ha. Wielding an array of BBQ weaponry, meat probes, and apps it would be epic!! Throw in a bread baking challenge and I think that's the event fully catered for πŸ™‚

Reading all this makes me so glad I don’t have to do any food prep whatsoever.

I’m fairly sure I’d come last in any sort of BBQ challenge and I’m fine with that

anyway, back to Christmas. Kicking off with one set of parents.

Present opening and coffee, followed by kicking off with one of my dirty secrets - an ice cold Steinlager at the bbq before breakfast.

BBQ breakfast/brunch - croissants, lambs fry, the works, etc. Sensational

THen into the car, and an hour up the road to the other parents, get teh charcoal on and play some croquet and drink some sparkling. Cook up a storm , get on the vino/beers and do a second round of presents. Collapse into bed happy πŸ™‚ Should be great fun

Brewing ( or more particularly bottling ) is a fucken pain in the arse. Potential future Mrs MN5 wasn't much help as she is too short to stir the mash when it's stacked high.

@MN5 damn, doesn't sound fun. I've been brewing 10 years now, and still bottling a bunch with some mates. It's fine - just need to be well organised.

That said, kegging is so much easier ... and having beer on tap is outstanding.

Yeah I last did it with a group of mates a few years back, I organised it and had to collect money etc. I thought fuck it someone else can sort it next time and I'm still waiting haha.

I cover both those options on my own - except for The Master bit, but I have been known to indulge in a bit of the old molecular gastronomy.

BBQ is more gratifying though. The others a bit too precise and esoteric and doesn't go well with getting pissed.

anyone who isn't solidly drinking while cooking on a BBQ is cheating.

@mariner4life It's why low and slow is the preferred method. More drinking time.
