@booboo hope vic meldrew clocks on later to tell me the name of the gun Rams point guard import of that era. Sorry for the thread hijack but it's more like a wake. Won't take too long NZ born or imported? I seem to remember a black American, Clyde someone? Clyde the glide Huntly (inset)

Dyvbig, Kenny McFadden Was a golden time of NZ basketball. Still recall McFadden winning a championship with a last minute shot and I'm pretty sure it was Dybvig who gave it the "he did it godammit, it he did it" Saints were the glamour team growing up in the Hutt (pre-Shakers days), they were stacked. I still remember going to games at a sold out Madgwick Stadium when the Rheineck or Countrywide League was at it's peak. McFadden, Hill, then Boagni, and a host of then NZ reps. The loud music, the antics of the gorilla mascot, the showmanship, it was all in stark contrast to going to the rugby

hope vic meldrew clocks on later to tell me the name of the gun Rams point guard import of that era Nah. Was more interested in just playing and practicing with mates than following the NBA or the NZ competition (was it The Big 8?). Gave up when I first came to the UK in '78. I worked with Pete Sewell, who was a NZ rep at the time. Use to coach us a bit.

They showed the John Hill tip-in on the TV news tonight. McKean's personality was very different to another US coach, John Dybvig. Tab Baldwin the other who springs to mind. I've been yelled at by that (good) bastard a few times! He used to show to some of the camps around the place. Never had the pleasure of meeting Dybvig but an icon of the game in NZ for sure. Cool the way so many of those American imports really made a home in NZ and Australia and lots gave back by coaching after their playing days were over.

I'd forgotten that we also had Peter Pokai in that season, before he joined the Shakers. Guys like John Saker, Ralph Adams all graced the Saints over the years

Witchiepoo from H.R. Pufnstuf. The opening credits where Witchiepoo's broom flew made me scared of all vapour trails ...
