I've said it before and I'll say it again. A significant part of my rugby fandom died that day on the back of that decision.
This only serves to justify that.

Same actually, like you've I've said this a few times before on here as well.
The decision, the mocking from every non-NZ rugby fan in the world, the smugness of Brits (I live over here), and the ratification on high from World Rugby.
Just could not be bothered giving it the same attention after that happened.

Agree. Most of the poms I know think we got screwed, badly.
Media … not so much. Mind you, even the poms hate their own rugby media!

Who thinks Barrett (IIRC he was the kicker at the time?) would have gotten the kick if the penalty stood? Pity we will never know, but that would have been a hell of a lot of pressure for someone who is not the most consistent kicker. I wonder if he felt an element of relief when it was overturned?

@crazy-horse well, I guess the other thing was had he played advantage (which both the penalty and scrum scenario allowed for) ALB was likely to score a try anyway, so the kick wouldn't have mattered!

Yup ALB was under the posts if he didn't blow his whistle.
The whole situation was so bad that it warranted WR making a statement, conducting a review, and making public what they are doing to try to prevent anything like that happening again. Instead we got the opposite, which as others have said, really put the game into disrepute and meant some of the longstanding fans of rugby took less interest in the game.

I would argue they have tried to prevent that sort of thing happening again.If the same thing happened today, with the way the TMO operates now maybe the ref would be likely to let it play out to the 'end' and then go back for review. I'd like to think that would be the case anyway.

That thought has crossed my mind a few times! But yes, the overall summary was
Test 2: By the letter of the law it's a penalty, so I must issue a penalty and cannot overturn. Favour - Lions.
