Well I for one am fucking stoked with that! Fed, take a bow, GOAT.

Been a while since I watched a 5 setter. Emotionally draining shit.

Absolute classic. Amazing how Fed turned his backhand into a weapon. That was one of his best ever victories beating his arch nemesis

He and Nadal are almost embarrassingly humble.

Nadal is back to somewhere near his best. If the duct tape that holds him together stays OK he is favourite in Paris again

Well this is a pleasant day to be Swiss. The country will be a tad more chipper tomorrow, in that gently undulating way the Helvetians approach life.

Looks like Rog finally worked out that beating Rafa is preferable to sulking around the house for weeks afterwards. Played the best against Rafa that I've seen in years, but he was still only just tough enough. πŸ™‚

Have to say, I thought he was fucked four times in that match.
                      1 Before he started.
                      2. When he dropped the second set.
                      3. When he dropped the 4th.
                      4 A break down in the 5th.

Quite a lot of redemption in that - will be tough for Rafa to prise away his GOAT standing now.

Thats a huge win for Roger, huge. If he had lost, then the GOAT title would have always had a huge asterix beside it for the 10-2 loss ratio to Nadal in grand slams. I'm not saying 9-3 is much better, but the bigger stat of 18-14 in the grand slams easily over rides that now.

Not that it will last though ... Nadal is looking ominous once again.

Seriously though when your worth what he is (happy to wear a 300k USD watch), why wouldn't you chuck a couple of grand towards some hair implants?

@MajorRage if Rafa can stay fit (and that's a big if) he'll be pretty fucking hard to beat on clay again later in the year.

And that to me is why he will never be the tennis GOAT. I was amazed when he originally won at Wimbledon, to adapt his game that much from clay has put him way up there but he is still a boring base liner at heart.

The stats give a good summary of the AO final. Fed attacks and Nadal defends, in basic terms. Part of what the rivalry is about I suppose - the contrasting styles of the two. I know which I prefer.

I thought both players were very aggressive last night, which made it such an incredible game to watch.

They were trying to hit winners with every shot, and they rattled through five sets pretty quickly (even with a few injury timeouts).

I think it's a bit unfair to say Rafa was defensive in that particular match, though I agree the 'boring baseliner' tag broadly fits his career.

Rafa was sporting a comb over! He's either got to go with implants or go like Agassi in 1995 and shave it all off

@barbarian O.K .Rafa is aggressive from the back of the court. He came to the net a few times but they were obvious situations to do so. He just doesn't have much variety in his game to make him interesting to watch compared to guys who will chip and charge, serve and volley every now and again.

Never in doubt eh @Chris-B πŸ˜€

I was away for the long weekend with no Sky TV so I didn't know the result until yesterday morning - pleasantly surprised and happy for Roger.

I did manage to watch the last hour of the replay last night, and if the rest of the match was as good as the 5th set it was an epic final. Kudos to Federer for coming back from a break down in the 5th set. That 8th game was the key to winning the match.

As others have said the post-match speeches summed up both players as they are both really likeable. I just find Rafa's style and OCD a bit much to watch.

3 of Federer's last 4 matches went to 5 sets, a first for him at a Grand Slam. Not bad for a 35-yr old!

I daresay Fed reads my proclamations on tennis and that was just the little motivational kick he needed.

Typical of the fucker that he finally gets it done when he had absolutely zero right to and I finally gave up on him! πŸ™‚

That said, despite knowing I would cop a bit of flak here, I was cheering for him in that final set. Mainly because he can now ride off into the sunset with wounds largely healed, while for Rafa it's just "for once I didn't win".
