The comments are batshit insane. How else was he supposed to draw her?

This whole thing is so ridiculous. Despite her apparently shocking double handicap of being both a woman and black, SW is in the top 1% of the 1% of the 1%. No sane individual can claim she's been hard done by or that her "handicaps" have hindered her ability to obtain the type of life 99.999999% can only fantasise about. Considering there are literally thousands of males who could kick her arse on the tennis court, maybe those banging on about equality should be given a taste of what that really looks like.

Don't read this unless you have a vomit bucket nearby:
      https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/10/opinion/serena-williams-tennis-usopen.html

This shit has taken a turn for the surreal. The vast majority of people couldn't give a shit about race or gender. They are simply reacting to a very successful and experienced athlete acting like a pathetic spoilt child. Yet some have to see a race or gender war in absolutely everything. Maybe the umpire also hated the fact she was a mother and should have been home with her kid? The mind boggles at the mental gymnastics going on here. That must be so farking tiring.

This reminds me of the South African reaction to Caster Seminya which was just as asinine.

Frank, I held my breath wondering whether I should post this.... it’s hitting a little below the belt... but I went blue in the face, gave up, and figured whatthefuck.

Whining Serena Williams is tennis’s Hillary Clinton

Things didn’t turn out how she wanted — so she had a tantrum at the umpire. How classy!

@salacious-crumb You could also make a similar analogy between Osaka and Trump, and their oratory skills.

I hope they do. How can you umpire a match when you know your name will get dragged through the mud by insane lefties if you enforce the rules? They don't get paid nearly enough for that.

Congrats to Osaka and Joker on their wins.

Love Osaka’s unassuming and humble manner and yet a real fighter on the court.

US Today program rarely offers up anything worth watching but thought they dealt with okay.

The headline of the article is misleading. Players throwing tantys on the court is nothing new, but in this instance the umpires feel like Ramos has been thrown to the wolves by the USTA for simply doing his job.

This is what they are talking about:

                            https://www.google.co.nz/amp/s/www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/serena-williams-us-open-loss-usta-ceo-katrina-adams-men-women-held-to-different-standards/

                            Absolutely ridiculous.

I was thinking the same thing and hoping that the umpires show some solidarity, even if it means going on strike in an upcoming event. Happy to see that the ITF is sticking up for Ramos.

Thankfully the cartoonist and his paper aren't backing down on this. The cartoon was front page of the paper with a heap of other cartoons showing these fucking idiots what satire looks like.

Anyone that’s played competitive tennis (particularly at junior level) will recognise Serena’s behaviour as pretty standard. There’s no other sport like it in my experience.

Bad behaviour is part of the sport.

I’ve recently got back into playing tennis at a reasonable level, I had forgotten how acceptable it is to blatantly cheat on line calls etc. you’d think by age 30-40 that players have matured a bit, unfortunately not.

@sammyc When I was at school some PE teachers were playing a game of tennis and one of them was losing the plot, blaming the balls and whatnot. In the end I asked him if he was simply a bit shit at the game.

Perhaps he was just your typical hack.

Must be your area. It is bloody good in our region. I can count on one hand how many times someone has blatantly cheated in the last 10 years.
I think it helps that we have a Friday night comp, so everyone shares a beer with the other team after the match, and the guy that caused shit.. usually ends up feeling really awkward. And over time all the guys know each other and the dickheads are soon sorted out.
Not doubting what you are saying for your experience though, I can totally believe it.
We make all our promising juniors play at least 2 years in senior mens teams so they learn to control the tantrums. Works incredibly well.

We make all our promising juniors play at least 2 years in senior mens teams so they learn to control the tantrums. Works incredibly well.

                                        That's good to hear.

It definitely wasn't like that when I was a junior playing with the senior men.

This year will be my first year of interclub in around 20 years. I'm in a grade where I'll end up playing a lot of the promising juniors.
I am interested to see if it's changed at all, having played corporate (social) tennis this year I'm shocked at the consistently terrible line calls made in almost every game.

Ahh I see. That explains a lot, bloody social comps always have a large smattering of players whose intensity levels are off the fricking chart compared to the level of their ability. They would have to be the most annoying players. The usually play like a spastic giraffe on meth. I swear some of those sweat band wearing buffoons actually think they are playing Wimbledon and that this is truly life or death.. fuckwits. But usually there is a sweet spot of tennis level where the spastic giraffes cannot play and you go back to playing with decent players who just want to have fun and play some good competitive (in the right way) tennis.
I can almost guarantee you will enjoy interclub a fuck ton more than that social comp bullshit.
