@mikey07 good chance we will sign Howden, he trained a lot with the Hurricanes last year as part of their Under 20s group.

Believe it when I see it

@mikey07 same, they will probably extend Prinseps contract by 5 years instead or pick some unknown twit who hasn’t showed anything.

With Toala’s inevitable departure we now need a 3rd string Hooke, another lock, a loosie and 3rd halfback, another centre and another wing/ utility back.

@mikey07 Plenty of green ex-schoolboys without NPC experience in the Wellington region. :angry_face_with_horns:

Probably Riley Higgins and Someone Else. 🙄

But to be serious, hooker is probably the most predictable one. I expect them to sign O'Reilly. :face_vomiting:

@mikey07 Josiah Maraku should be on the Canes midfield radar unless MP (or the Blues) beat them to him. He trained all season in the Blues wtg and has looked quick and strong for Manawatu. Only 20 but plenty of promise.

@daffy-jaffy Unfortunately he’d be in same boat as Toala as in get only one game a year but yeah I’d definitely like to see him sign with the Canes

@stargazer I expect Riley to get a contract at some point in the future, along with Harry Godfrey but both of them are way too raw to get a contract yet.
Hopefully they both pick up training squad contracts.

Lol they will probably sign someone like Brandyn Laursen instead. Who knows though, the Canes didn’t sign T Umaga-Jensen and he was seen as a better 2nd five at school than his bro, instead they gave a 5 year contract to B Proctor which made no sense whatsoever.

There was also Connor Garden-Bachop who was another Wellington school player lighting it up back then but he’s now with the Highlanders.

Taine Plumtree is another Wellington school player that didn’t pick up a contract and now he’s with the Blues.

I’ve given up on trying to guess Hurricane signings these days, they hardly ever pick the players that should obviously be selected.

Just pathetic recruiting at the end of the day.

                    @canes4life

It doesn't really matter who they pick, to be honest. The players who make the starting lineup will be the same old stale players that always do. The odd time that a youngster gets selected (following an injury) and shines, they'll chuck him straight back into the Bs team till he gets sick of being neglected, and will sign for another team.

@bobily2 even worse is when they consistently perform at Super Rugby, they crack the All Blacks and then all of sudden they get shunned to the bench for no apparent reason.

I agree, Holland has his favourites and no matter how good other players play, they will never get a proper crack because of that favouritism he has for the likes of Prinsep, Blackwell and Proctor etc.

That, along with the fact that we haven’t really heard much from the CEO since he fumbled Beaudy’s contract a few years ago (apart from the odd false promise) and you have yourself a pretty disappointing CEO/Coaching combo.

I was surprised the Blues were able to retain Plummer and Perofeta with Barrett back for them this year.

Was hoping the Canes would be able to convince one of them down our ways. Particularly Perofeta being a Wanganui boy.

I just hope Love is our starting 1st five. Don't think I can cope with another season of JGB lol.

@foobanz be prepared to not cope. I can't see the coaches getting over their hardon for JGB. At least Love is a Wellington player so there might be a small chance that he starts one game against a weaker opponent.

JGB on form is not that bad is he. He will never be an AB contender but Love was clearly not ready last year

@winger I think we can do better than "not that bad"

I've said this before but there is no point the Canes persisting with these average players that won't win you a title.

Better to go with youth with an upside than accept mediocrity season after season.

You would think that the Canes were one of the teams that talked to Brett Cameron.

“I did have talks with a couple of teams, but it ended up not working out,” said Cameron, who had already signed a one-year deal with Kamaishi Seawaves in Japan. ”Unfortunately, it was just a bit late in the piece to change my mind and pull out of commitments that I’ve got in Japan.

Has anyone heard any signing rumours for next year? The Canes have been very quiet lately, I even messaged them to see when the squad was named last week and I had no response whatsoever.

@canes4life Someone on here previously asked around the teams and was told that the teams would be announced early November.

They're busy measuring the height of their locks to ensure that they come under franchise limits.
