Never has been, can't remember. As I said they tend to not be a good promotion for the game , because they usually messy affairs.

Waratahs trial yesterday versus 3 of the lower lights in Sydney club Rugby (Two Blues, West Harbour, Hunter). Headed along with the Renegades Treasurer and President as a later minute decision on what the fuck to do on a Saturday.
There were no Wallabies on the field, but the Tahs still won every 30 minute period by 20ish points, conceding only one try. Lot of Clubbies and extended squad in tahs shirts, and they were reasonably impressive.
But the quality of the opposition was ... Well, poor. There's a reason these clubs prop up the bottom of the table. If the Two Blues props are getting match payments, they're spending most of it on Colonel.
CEO of NSW Rugby was there, and sat down for a chat with us. He sort of knows me by sight from a few functions as I'm on the board for Suburban Rugby. An interesting insight on a few players and the lay of the land numbers wise.
Nice stadium in terms of structure but the lines for beer were too long. Also: $7 for a can of Tooheys? Fucking hell... We need to up our prices.

Comp hasn’t started.
Chiefs v MO was a charity game.Yeah I realise this, but they could at least stream all the warm up games. FFS no one can go and watch them. It is just part of the lack of brains that NZR et al have. Anything to build engagement is good. But no, we get nothing
I imagine that's up to the individual franchises to organise. Most franchises aren't particularly good at catering to their fans, unfortunately.

I feel a bit bad for MP because they'll probably get savaged a bunch of times by the Kiwi sides before they get a chance to secure a win against the Drua or any Australian sides. The beatings will cause disarray and who knows what that does to the organisation. But then again, who cares?

@shark I think they'll just be happy to be there tbh, along with the Drua, which is the main thing at the end of they day. It's good to have a platform for the Pacific sides.

Chiefs vs Blues
MP vs Highlanders
Hurricanes vs CrusadersThe latter two teams would then play each other in Rd 1 the following week.

Not if you take the top route there. Nice straight empty roads in the Maniototo. No cops. Cut the corner and avoid Alexandra.

Games finish near enough to 9, some after match formalities and probably a quick nosh up, freshen up, and they'll be lucky if they're on the road by 10.30, into QTN around 0230. Fuck that. It's like an NBA post game routine but they fuck off on private jets and fly all hours but have scheduled nap time the next day. And that's after a minimum 4 hour drive to get there. I'm sure the medical staff will figure out the best routine and that might be to leave after brekky and a few hours of free time at around 12, into Dunedin 4/4.30, quick trot around to stretch the legs then into the rooms.

It's also around half an hour to the airport from central Dunedin, then add in the check in time or whatever procedure there is when you charter a plane, and if they go hell-for-leather from the final whistle they might take off at 11 or 11.30. A half hour flight and then...nowhere to land as the airport would have been shut for hours by midnight.
