Parker is a no.8, who can play 6. I think Boshier will definitely be the backup openside in that mix.

Officially, the squad is meant to be announced at 8 am. I was told Reihana wasn't retained so that info must be wrong.

IMO they've selected one too many inside/midfield backs and not enough loose forwards and outside backs.

I don't think he has played any games this year (Chiefs or Waikato). Parker is a big unit, bigger than Jacobson for example. He was even used at lock for Waikato when they played Northland in Kaikohe last year.

He wouldn't be suited to openside.

Agree that Poihipi was probably lucky (again).

I'll have a crack at a 23 including some players where I'd like to see them.

              14. Nanai-Seturo
              15. Trask

@yeetyaah If Trask is to start at fullback you don't need a 1st 5 in the reserves. A midfield back (Nankivell) and outside back would be better. I wouldn't be surprised if Narawa starts on the wing, as McMillan is obviously a fan.

@bobily2 I also favour a Finau-Cane-Jacobson loose forward trio. Sowakula to replace Finau in the 2nd half. That would make Jacobson the backup 7 in the 23.

They have now updated the player and coach profiles. No new forwards coach yet.

Pretty good squad. Seems light on a 7 backup for Cane and neither Mitch Jacobson or Tom Florence picked up elsewhere. Surprised that neither George Dyer and Dangelo Leuila were picked up either. But expect those guys will all be on shortlists for injury cover and AB rest periods.

@yeetyaah Gotta say that looks like a very competitive side. I'm actually really looking forward to Super Rugby after the turgid spring tour.

@bobily2 I saw that too. The Chiefs player profiles are consistent in their typos.

@crucial I am expecting Slater will be ahead of Thompson in the hooker pecking order. That decision might be dependent on pre-season form.

Trask over Reihana too, on goal kicking alone. I like Rivez but he isn't the most consistent there.
