The Chiefs have Bryn Gatland and Kaleb Trask on their books for next year while Rivez Reihana is also expected to return to the franchise.

I was speaking to a Chiefs squadie at the NZ U20 game. He said that some of the last positions won't be filled until after the NPC as they are wanting to see the players in contention perform and get rewarded with selection.

Damian McKenzie will skip Super Rugby next year after signing a lucrative deal to replace Beauden Barrett at Japanese club Suntory.
At this point, the Herald understands McKenzie is yet to complete a contract to return to New Zealand Rugby which is holding up any official announcement.
McKenzie owns a house in Hamilton and has played 95 games for the Chiefs since 2015 and is, therefore, favoured to return to the franchise, but a deal is yet to be reached.
He could yet depart at the end of the year without a New Zealand contact, as TJ Perenara opted to do last year.

I think he was quite wanted in HB at the time, but I’m glad he’s away from the Kanes. Well, TBF, if he’d remained in Napier the Kanes would have ignored him anyway.
But I think Chiefs is the best place for him, we need to make room for RTS - I’ve got the best interest of both teams and NZ rugby as my highest priority.
