Can't see why you'd exclude him from the process? May as well let him pitch. Unless it meant tying up assistants from aligning with others I guess.

Other than Robertson, who else would put their hands up?

Because on recent evidence, that means he's back in again as part of the old boys club.

Alright folks, time to put your money where your mouth is.

I'm still firmly of the opinion I've seen enough that I'd be looking to move on from Foster. I don't think he has developed much of our game, and selections have been consistently haphazard. To me, on his body of work, he should be gooooooorne

      77% winning record
      Retained Bledisloe twice
      Won Rugby Championship
Record winning score against Australia (under super coach Rennie to boot)

Loss to Argentina, reign has avoided the World Champs and most other harder teams (not his fault) and has taken a couple of years to stop making safe selections.

With all that said, if you sack him you have to look at the quality to replace him and there aren’t many options not already locked down.

Voted for keeping Foster but changing the assistants. Defence and attack coach would be the two most important changes needed.

It won't happen but Foster, Plumtree, Tony Brown and a good defensive coach would be pretty bloody useful.

I actually think Feek is going a decent job at scrum time considering what he is working with. He is down Moody and Ofa, there is a dearth of decent tightheads, has a rookie bench hooker and a rookie loosehead. I'm ok with it.

I'm not sure the one eyes would be willing to accept sacking Robertson after only 10 tests during with a similar record if he were the one appointed.

At this point Foster should be extended until the end of the TRC next year, with the assistants to be reviewed after both this year's TRC (if it goes poorly) and EOYT.

While I wasn't convinced Robertson was the right man for a probable four year appointment as head coach, I do think he, Gats or a combo of both are our best chance of shaking things up and catching lightning in a bottle for 2023 like Erasmus or Cheika and midway through next year would be the latest that change could be made IMO.

The difference is that Foster is considered to be an extension of the old guard while Robertson would be a completely new regime. Having said that, there would still be question marks about Robertsen if he’d delivered the dross we saw last year.

His record with national rep teams is not stellar and coaches with limited coaching experience outside the Crusaders environment have had mixed results elsewhere from Robbie on down.

@delicatessen no, they either reappoint, or they advertise for applicants, NZR credibility is already at a bit of a low, if they advertise and Foster is reappointed would be even more of a farce...for me, if they advertise, he is gone (unless no one else applies)

I dont think he has done anythign to deserve the old heave ho and dont let the door hit you on the way out, it isnt his fault the limited opposition we have had, but he needs to take the heat and show a plan because right now it appears we are stale and running in 3rd gear most of the time

Foster's defensive coach is the first against the wall.

No great fan of Foster or his initial appointment, but time to the next World Cup is running out fast. I thought yesterday's performance showed promise and was the best of Foster's reign in many respects.

Not happy at all about the defensive structure. McLeod must go. Want to see Tony Brown join the coaching staff. Voted for retaining Foster but with a compulsory rejig of the assistants.

Be funny if Foster gets reappointed on the back of kicking the shit out of the desiccated corpse that is Aussie rugby.

Thought about this some more - and wanted to be really clear that this isn't just a 'sack the coach' response. He had a two year term. The question is really whether he has done enough to suggest he's the man to take us through to the RWC. For me, I don't think so; I haven't seen the improvements in the game I'd expect. Weaknesses are still there.

it's not a sacking, it's a question of reappointing (extending the contract).

Agree with this - given where we are at in the cycle and the relatively short time we have to address the multitude of issues, what we’ll probably need to win the RWC is someone who can come in and quickly shake things up and build a simple and pragmatic game plan that can win a World Cup. That to me is either Razor or Gats but even if they did win the RWC - which is unlikely - they don’t necessarily get re appointed after 2023 given what we need is really a rescue mission and not a re-build. That’s why I think Gats is the better man for the rescue job, as I’m not sure if I want Razor to take on that potentially poisoned chalice.

Agree with this - given where we are at in the cycle and the relatively short time we have to address the multitude of issues, what we’ll probably need to win the RWC is someone who can come in and quickly shake things up and build a simple and pragmatic game plan that can win a World Cup.

                                      God?

depends - does he think Bridge is one of our premier wingers or not?

The longer they wait the easier it will be to make calls on the class of 2013 and Whitelock too. That would have leadership implications. Hansen was not capable of making the calls on Read and SBW that needed to be made, I doubt Foster is either.
