I wonder if they will use him as an openside? Cane and Boshier aren't travelling and Karpik had a head knock recently.
I've always thought he would be better suited to 7 at SR level (understandable why he doesn't play there in NPC given the number of opensides Northland has)
The Blues should have given him a run ahead of Kiri Kiri -

I guess right now, if you can stay in NZ and play Super rugby, anywhere other than the Blues is a good place.

There's a shortage of tens with Sopoaga leaving and Cruden having left recently.
There will be ~15 flyhalfs contracted next year and the quality at the lower end of that list is not great. In other years I doubt Gatland would get a contract
From a Blues point of view Black, Plummer & Perofeta would be a reasonable outcome. Aged 23, 22 and 20 at the start of next season and all recently come through the NZ u20's program. One of them should kick on.. all they need is good coaching..

SANZAAR, as publicly announced last year, is in the middle of a detailed strategic review to determine the future of Super Rugby and The Rugby Championship. This major internal review is being driven by the SANZAAR Executive Committee and the Member Unions: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina. SANZAAR CEO Andy Marinos said today, “SANZAAR is currently engaged in a detailed strategic planning process that has the ultimate and very important aim of producing a road map for the competitions’ future formats up to and including 2030, and in the shorter term the delivery to market of competitions for the next iteration of SANZAAR’s broadcasting rights.” “As part of this process the member unions have fully committed to the strategy and their future participation. Any talk of a change to the stakeholder relationship and partners withdrawing, creation of new teams in new markets and Trans- Ta$man competitions is unsubstantiated speculation and simply wrong.” “This 12-year strategy is designed to address the challenges facing our game and to clearly articulate SANZAAR’s vision and purpose in terms of a sustainable future. The desired outcome is the delivery of competitive, innovative, engaging and financially sustainable competitions to ensure the continued success of the Member Unions and the Super Rugby clubs/franchises.” “Everything has been on the table – status quo, expansion, contraction, competition formats, etc - as part of our initial blue-sky thinking. We basically started with a blank piece of paper and now we are doing the detailed analysis on what is viable, sustainable and best for our competitions.” “There is an incredible amount of detailed work taking place in this review and we have specialist groups working across all aspects of the review. Therefore it is very disappointing that various aspects of the initial work in terms of potential tournament formats been taken out of context and aired in public.” "Potential expansion into new markets for example should not be confused with only an increase in teams. I think they want to be with Europe. Aligns with time zones and money. Europe not so keen to go from 1 horu flights, to 10 hour flights though, so I don't know if it will ever fly for top level competition.
This issue seems to raise its head every few years.

@nzzp travelling fans is always one of the things I envy of their comps (6N too) because it is so close, whereas travelling for us means long haul to South Africa or Argentina, which brings huge cost, so is more a one off than something you can do regularly.

Good point raised by Nato on radio sport this morning, if they did leave for Europe who’s international competition will the Boks play in?
Can’t see them being invited to join the 6 Nations, and they would no longer be in SANZAR so they won’t be in the Championship. -

isn't the money from Sky bundled for 4N & Super duper rugby? Obviously that would change...maybe this is all a ploy for when negotiations are up; we have other options, make sure you look after us.
Aussie are the ones who currently bring little to the table and have little bargaining power, that said, giving them less money while at an all time low wont help, so maybe they need to somehow change the payout structure and say Aus, heres a retainer, and this is how much money is available to you, however, it will be based on these >KPIs< you don't meet, they get paid to SA/NZ as bonuses based on their performances.

@taniwharugby Yeah, they can look at all options, but what the Lions CEO wants, SARU want, and SANZAAR want can be miles apart.
