@stargazer what a gutless, mindless heap of shit Mafi is. This isn't an aberration. Here's hoping he gets convicted and that conviction prevents him from travelling to other countries to play.

New players collective and TV deal in 2020, and lots moving on after rwc = lots more money for younger types. Common sense to go for short deal

Although the article seems to imply, along with being utterly ageist, that the NZRU don't value him at the same level a Read or Barrett. If that's the case they're fkn stupid - he's as valuable to ABs as them, or almost as much.

@antipodean Yeah, I posted that about Koroibete last night. Really nice chap, that Mafi lad. He's contracted to a Japanese club. They'll not keep him on the books, you can be sure of that. After George Smith got into trouble late last year, he lost his Japanese contract eventhough he wasn't charged for the assault he'd allegedly committed. Different club, but I don't think the outcome will be different.

@stargazer If he's not a Japanese citizen he'll be digging a needlessly large hole for himself vwith his anger management issues.

@antipodean Yup, and likely to lose his spot in the Brave Blossoms and a possible Sunwolves contract for next season, too.

Geez, Mafi is a coward, too. Had help from his brother when he beat up Timani.

Here's Timani's story about what allegedly happened: https://www.rugbypass.com/news/thought-gong-die-timani-reveals-gruesome-details-alleged-attack

Timani stuffed up. Never insult a family member of an islander. Team mate or not, blood is blood.

In saying that, it doesnt justify Mafis actions. He should've told Timani to go, but I can imagine Mafis family egging him on with the "are you gonna let him talk to your family like that?". With alcohol around, I can understand why it happened.

@mimic depends a lot on what he said though doesn't it? A swear word was mentioned in the article.

I think this story is more about a fuckwit repeat assaulter than the right manners in an honourable home

Watched half an hour of the 4th semi-final and the Lions are leading 24 - 6. Looks hopeless for Jaguares. I'm signing off. It looks like it's going to be a Lions - Tahs semi in Jo'burg.

Rebels suspend rookie duo over fresh allegations

UPDATED: The Melbourne Rebels have suspended two players indefinitely after were involved in an incident that left a man hospitalised with serious injuries.

Rookies Hunter Paisami and Pone Faamausili have both admitted their involvement in a late-night conflict after being accused of seriously injuring another man, and the Rebels have stood the pair down for the time being.

Faamausili has provided a statement to police on Sunday over the alleged incident but no charges have been laid and the duo have also spoken to Rebels CEO Baden Stephenson and team manager Tony Thorpe about the incident.

Paisami is yet to provide a statement to police.

Faamausili made his Rebels debut this season and recently signed a new deal with the club, taking him through to 2020, while Paisami is yet to make his Super Rugby debut.

The allegations came to light on Sunday via social media, with the sister of the alleged victim accusing the two Rebels players of a coward punch that left her brother in hospital.

There are believed to be conflicting accounts of the incident, though they are taking the situation very seriously in light of recent events.

Rebels no. 8 Amanaki Mafi was arrested in New Zealand last weekend and charged with injuring with intent to injure teammate Lopeti Timani.

Any formal club punishments will not be handed down by the Rebels until the police investigation is complete.

Rugby Australia is also aware of the accusations.

                                        @canefan

NZ squads need to find a total of 15 SR quality 10's. The bottom third of that list doesn't look great..
Gatland might develop but he looks limited. Ioane probably spooked the Highlanders coaches with that recent shocker at fullback

They could hope another one turns up in the NPC

Why would Quade do it? I thought his really expensive contract continues until the end of next season? Is that over? If he wants to make the RWC his best option would be moving to the Rebels or Brumbies.

@canefan Wouldn't be a bad choice, considering the lack of good first five-eighths in NZ. I've been impressed with his attitude since he was snubbed by Thorne. From what I've seen and heard, he has been training hard, not only trying to play as well as possible for his local club team but also helping his club team mates getting better. Not sulking.
