The Brumbies have announced the signing of Murray Douglas for the 2019 and 2020 Super Rugby seasons, who joins them from the Hurricanes.
A Scottish-born lock or flanker, Douglas arrives at the Brumbies having played a major role in the Hurricanes’ run to the semi-finals of the competition last year having made seven appearances and becoming a go-to player off the bench for the Wellington franchise.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the Brumbies for the next two seasons, a club which has a rich history in Super Rugby and is renowned for producing some of Australia’s most talented rugby players,” Douglas said of his signing.
“I can’t wait to link up with the team at preseason to start the hard work and look forward to settling into life in Canberra.”
The combative Douglas began his Super Rugby career in Melbourne with the Rebels making three appearances for the Victorian club in 2017 following his debut against the Chiefs.
Comfortable with ball in hand, Douglas likes to take the game to the opposition and is a physical presence in, and around, the breakdown. At 1.98m and 115kg Douglas, who counts Edinburgh and Melbourne Rising amongst his former clubs, adds considerable height and bulk to the line-out and is an effective option at the set-piece.
“Murray is an experienced player, having spent some time in Melbourne and playing in the Mitre 10 Cup for Northland where he played really well, and he has also spent some time with the Hurricanes,” Brumbies head coach Dan McKellar commented.
“He has the ability to cover six, as well as lock, and gives us that bit of experience to add to the group. We have good back-rowers and four really good locks and Murray will add to that as well. Having that versatility certainly makes him an attractive player and gives good coverage to the squad.
“He has a very good work-rate and is a physical player, who has a good turn of speed, which allows him to play in the back-row. You do your research and background on these players and one thing that is often mentioned is his attitude and work ethic, which is what we want at the Brumbies.”

Major role? In seven appearances? He only played 214 minutes.

NEWS: The Brumbies have signed exciting young inside back Tom Wright from National Rugby League Club, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, on a two-year deal.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Randwick, New South Wales, was a schoolboy rugby prodigy and was one of the most sought-after prospects in either rugby code following his performances for his school team, St. Joseph’s College.
Possessing electric pace, an incredible step and an eye for the tryline, Wright has all the attributes required to be a success in the XV-a-side game.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Tom to the Brumbies,” CEO Michael Thomson commented.
“Tom is a very exciting prospect and is exactly the kind of young, enthusiastic talent, that thrives in the Brumbies environment. His pace and electrifying running are sure to get fans on the edge of their seats. We are looking forward to welcoming Tom to Canberra and the Brumbies.”
Tipped as a bolter for the Aussie Sevens Rio Olympic team in 2016, Wright turned down the offer of a Sevens contract to take up a position at the Sea Eagles and was an instant success making a first-grade debut this past season against the Brisbane Broncos, and scoring one try in his five appearances.

That's interesting news, I wonder how he'll go? Now he can't save his best performances for the AB's, is he going to go gang-busters for the Blues? Or just make a bit of pocket money before retiring. Still one of my fave players ever, good to see him back

Well, history suggests he needs either black or yellow on his jumper to perform, so a risky selection.
That said, he will be in a completely different head-space now to what he was after being booted from his beloved Canes, so it could work out.

Well actual history would suggest he was actually quite good in one of his Bles stints - I'm sure one of the Blues fans on here can remind us which one it was.

Yeah don't know about this. He was great for us in 2014 and I am a huge fan, but with him and SBW, someone's gonna pack a sad out of the 2. Still, it's much better than having to see Rieko at 12 so can't complain on that part.
@Duluth He obviously knows something. It wouldn't suprise me one bit tbh. I'd rather give Tumua Manu a go instead of Ranger, he was shocking for us in his last stint.

Yep Nonu was very good in his last stint with the Blues (2014).

Good signing IMO.
Let’s assume a; he’s matured since his last Blues stint and will not bring the ego and b; he’s got a pretty healthy respect for Tana so will be on best behaviour.I’d imagine he’ll job share with SBW, which helps keep him fresh and fit for the WC.

He will b e 36 or 37 come next season and with S-B Williams being in his mid 30s it must make for the oldest mid field combo by about a dozen years over any other NZ team. Given that situation it will be interesting to see the make up of the reserve bench.

@hooroo If they were going to bring someone in form outside the country, then perhaps Michael Little would've been a good alternative?
@tim the irony is,both Ranger,Little and Vaega could all on the field at the same time for the Sunwolves next year..
