@nepia percentage goal kicker with probably the biggest boot in the Mitre 10 Cup ,runs at the line really well and is a very good defender..trying to work out his weekness..!
You know he's played Super Rugby before right?
And he's Australian.
@nepia I know that, the difference being his game is Developing under better coaches in NZ,could not tell you who coaches the Rebels..by the way,he was born in Auckland, moved to OZ as a youngster

I know he was born in NZ, he's still Australian. I must admit I've only watched 4 Northland games this year but I don't think he's looked as assured as you're suggesting, just reminded me of his play at Super level.
Blues should have signed him since he's in your catchment area.

@nepia so you are saying you watched more than 4 games of the Rebels?

In 5 years, I reckon so.

@kiwimurph all the first fives the Blues have selected since 2003 have worked really well.!..to me the jury is still out on Plummer and Perofeta at super level Perofeta especially..!,Plummer looks promising but super rugby is a different level..Otere Black will definitely start as the Blues no1 but let’s not forget he was the number 2 at the Canes.
Purely from a Northland piece delighted that Debreczeni has secured a contract,we have not had decent pivot at the Taniwha since David Holwell wore the 10 jersey.
We don’t have the depth that Auckland has neither the money,so guys picking up contracts is huge as seen by the Tasmans of this world..!@steven-harris Debreczeni was so bad for the Rebels this year they dropped him and shoehorned Hodge out of position at 10. And it worked. Hodge was far better (not a high bar).

That’s a good point, but is he likely to be better than MMac? That’s the question.

I haven't had a chance to watch the Northland-Waikato game yet but I can only assume Smith outplayed Debreczeni. I don't think I saw one Rebels games this season to comment on his performance at SR level.

@bovidae I wont be re watching it, ever.
Worst defensive effort, ever.

This will be the first game in the last 3 that Waikato have travelled to Whangarei that I will enjoy watching, and will last the full 80 mins.

@bovidae 5 of your tries you will just laugh at, we were that poor.

Debreczeni more than deserves a chance. Has done everything that would've been asked of any other 10 looking for a Super Rugby contract. Might not have been a roaring success at the Rebels but having that experience means he won't be overawed. Has plenty of upside for a coach to work with - size, good defence, big punt, accurate goal kicker and plays at the line

It was goddamn weird. Just defensive lapses, and poor decisions. Highlight for Northland was when Ranger put in a late, hard shoulder on Waikato 15. Great shot, but the sort of thing that could wind up with a judiciary visit
Okara with a bunch of people and sun is such a great venue. Really enjoyed the day out.

@nzzp haha yep, that wasnt too long after he threw that intercept 5m out...he got tipped on his head at a ruck right in front of the AR too, they have let that go a few times this year.

Ranger looked a class above for most of the game. Physical and with smoe hard passing skills, and defensively solid. Tried to do too much though, as no one aroudn him was standing up. He'll be a good buy for the Sunwolves I think.
Also, I haven't seen that many Mitre10 players up close for a while. The strength and conditioning in the comp seems to ahve improved light years. Some real athletes running aroudn in a supposedly semi-pro competition. Good to see, and it's a key to us actually churning our professional rugby player and all blacks. Pathways, baby, pathways (with a nod to @NTA)

@nzzp ha except one of our bench props, a real throw back!
Yeah there are some solid units running about these days.
Ranger has always been that type of player, always trying things, when they come off they look spectacular, when they dont it makes him or those around him look average, so you come to expect and accept he will make errors. He's been a great servant, and as I have often said, playing in Cambridge blue is what he loves and is where he is able to express himself as only he can.
Looks to have a couple more years in him left at this level!
