The deal to which everyone has agreed is that those All Blacks who toured Europe in November can't play any pre-season games, they can't play more than five games consecutively, need to miss a minimum of two games in the campaign and when they are sitting out, they shouldn't train with the squad or be involved in the strategical planning.

Fucking made me Google "strategical". Apparently a valid word.

Hurricanes and All Blacks starting first-five Barrett is expected to miss next weekend's Super Rugby derby against the Crusaders in Christchurch while taking extended All Blacks leave.

James Marshall, who can cover 10 or 15, lasted five minutes in his Hurricanes return as a second-half substitute in their 20-19 win over the Waratahs on Saturday. He was taken to hospital after the match with a dislocated shoulder.

Hurricanes coach John Plumtree was asked post-match about his side's depth at first-five given Marshall's loss.

"We've obviously got Jackson Garden-Bachop to fall back on and Beauden coming back, eventually, so it's not all doom and gloom," he said.

Plumtree said Barrett would be back with the squad next week after spending two and a half weeks on his honeymoon.

"Beauden will be back in next week, but we won't be rushing him back. He's got a process around his contact, so we'll make a call on that when we get home."

It will likely fall to Fletcher Smith to once again start, with Garden-Bachop on the bench.

                  @Duluth

As far as cover options go, loosehead Isileli Tu'ungafasi trained with the Crusaders during pre-season but is sidelined with a calf strain. Another option could be Otago prop Donald Brighouse, who impressed when called into the team as injury cover during their title run last season.

What's Jarred Adams up to? Guess he may be a bit off the fitness level required for Super Rugby?

Is Nic Mayhew still injured? He was prefered over Eves at Harbour last year.

Every week throughout Super Rugby we will award points to the three best performing rookies and at the end of the season a New Zealand Investec Super Rugby Rookie of the Year will be named.

Not sure who they mean with "we" though.
NZR? The editors of the NZ Super Rugby website? Or, heaven forbid, commentators at games (like the Duane Monkley Medal in the M10 Cup)?

NOTE: The qualification for rookies is players that are either playing in their first season of Super Rugby or who are playing their first season as a contracted player and have played less than five games prior to 2019.

                        Round 1:
                        3 Points: Tom Robinson (Blues)
                        2 Points: Bailyn Sullivan (Chiefs)
                        1 point: Etene Nanai-Seturo (Chiefs)

Waratahs hooker Tolu Latu has been suspended for six weeks for dangerous play in the final stages of NSW's Tokyo win.

Latu faced a SANZAAR hearing on Monday night after being cited for an incident in the 79th minute of their 31-30 win over the Sunwolves when the hooker appeared to dive at the knee of Sunwolves flanker Ed Quirk.

Latu will not be available to play for the Waratahs until their April 27 clash against the Sharks at Western Sydney Stadium.

He will miss five matches in total with the Waratahs on a bye this week.

@KiwiMurph He's a brainless clown. Good to see these sorts of bans being issued for those types of "tackles". Sinckler should have been cited for one against Wales.

@antipodean he seems to have really one to town on the cynical and foul play this season? Too fit now and just finding stuff to do?

More evidence to my stance that dragging a team off the bottom rung is way harder than just selections and coaching ability.
You have to navigate having the shit draw and the shit refs as other teams are deemed more 'important' by ranking.

@Crucial Are you suggesting that ref appointments are influenced by how teams are ranked?
