@Yeetyaah Compared to what else is out there atm in terms of talent, then yes, Cruden would be high on my list.

If I was in charge of the Canes I would sign both McLutchie and Cruden for 2020. In my eyes McLutchie is probably the most promising 1st five the Canes could sign and plays a very similar style to Cruden. To learn off Cruden for a couple of years would be gold for McLutchie's development and if that means releasing one of Garden-Bachop or Smith then so be it.

@Canes4life Sorry for correcting you, but it's McClutchie, not McLutchie.

@Stargazer yeah that's the one. He looks the goods but it will be good to see how he goes in this NPC campaign because he is fairly small.

I wish the printers who sorted me 1000 business cards with my name spelt wrong were this pedantic.

Not sure if Cruden is a great recruit he has struggled in NH and has had a lot of injuries.A gamble signing in my opinion.

I'd sign him in a flash unless he's carrying some sort of ongoing injury.

At worst he can play the same sort of role Mike Delany played at the Crusaders and he's way younger than Delany was and at his peak a much better player.

@Chris He's still only 30 so no real reason he should be past it. I guess they'd need to do their due diligence, but he might just be someone who never settled into Europe.

@Chris-B you can be past it at 28 depending on your body and mindset
It’s hard to come back to a decent level when you have been down for what would be 3 years
I thought he was declining the last year before he left for the NH
If the Canes sign him it will be interesting personally I wouldn’t.

@Chris 100% agree. How can a player be fully committed to a franchise knowing he is leaving the following year. If the Canes let this happen they will look like massive chumps.

How is it any difference to a player knowing he is leaving to go over seas the following year. They still play hard for the team they are paid by

                                First, nothing confirmed yet.

Second, it's odd that they allow Jordie - not exactly someone who has earned his stripes in SR yet - this kind of contracting flexibility. I can understand that they allow that flexibility to the likes of Retallick, Whitelock and BB, but why Jordie? To me it doesn't seem that Jordie should have as much bargaining power as his brother. Tell him to make a choice now!

                                Then this:

The option for Jordie Barrett to switch likely comes with a desire to play with Beauden if he didn't take the sabbatical in 2021.

He stated his desire to play with his brother as a big reason behind his move to the Hurricanes for his first Super Rugby contract in 2017.

If Beauden Barrett did take the sabbatical, then Jordie Barrett would likely stay at the Hurricanes, but he would also have the option to join one of the other three Super Rugby franchises.

Is he a little boy who can't play without his brother? Geez, grow up.

Option to join one of the other three franchises? Are we canning one? Or does the journo mean other than Blues and Hurricanes?

If they give a player like Jordie the flexibility that was previously only awarded to very senior ABs, where will this end? Will every SR player get that flexibility in future? This just isn't good for the franchises at all!

Haha a few people getting their knickers in a twist over this. Why shouldn’t he want to play with his brother? No different than a player wanting to be based in a particular city near family or play under a certain coach or any other readon for choosing a team to sign for.
As far as i can see he hasn’t been offered what BBBR, whitelock and BB have been. He hasn’t been given a sabbatical he just hasn’t finalised the super rugby component of the deal. I don’t see anything wring with that.

@Stargazer I don't have too much of a problem with it (in terms of where he plays) as at least he is choosing to play here.

I can also see why he would want to keep playing with his bro.

@Chris 100% agree. How can a player be fully committed to a franchise knowing he is leaving the following year. If the Canes let this happen they will look like massive chumps.

How is it any difference to a player knowing he is leaving to go over seas the following year. They still play hard for the team they are paid by

@Hooroo Because a player that heads overseas has usually done so after giving his all for their jersey over a long period of time. Case in point - Matt Proctor who busted his ass this year knowing he had limited time left in the jersey that he was loyal to for so long. There is no way you can show the same commitment knowing you are leaving for another franchise.

I'm just imagining how pissed off Dane Coles will be. bahaha

@Canes4life You would have to wonder how much this pisses off the Canes players.I will play for you this year but I don't really want to, I want to play for another team against you guys after that.Just go now ffs.
Also does it not hold franchises to ransom sign a 2 year contract with an outclause to play at another franchise,So the SR team feels that have to pander to him to try and keep him.
Nah you don't want to play for a team just leave.
Canes put him on the Bench or don't pick him.
